Any suggestions for photography along the Kancamangus next week? Or, any suggestions for other NH/Vt locations. I am from Alaska visiting my daughter in Maine so I am totally at your mercy .

The Kancamangus highway is a stunning location. Don't miss all of Franconia Notch, another remarkable, photographic New Hampshire location. Check out the Flume Gorge, incredibly photographic!
It's a great time of year for a visit to the White Mountain region: enjoy!

The Kanc isn't all that long of a run from end to end. You'll find a number of vistas and pull off places to shoot. You'll be hitting it at a good time it's just about peak for the fall colors. Take your time and happy shooting to you.
(and you can "peek" at the "peak" foliage!)

and the grammar/spelling police strike again...
The Kancamagus Highway (one "n") runs west from Conway to Lincoln NH (since you are coming from Maine). In Lincoln take I-93 north to Franconia Notch and the Flume Gorge area. Continue north and take Route 3/302 to Bretton Woods. Continue on 302 through Crawford Notch towards North Conway and back to Maine.

There are lots of places to stop and good shooting at each of them. One you might not notice is the gondola at Loon Mountain - for $16 you get a full day pass and there are lots of good opportunities, both at the top of Loon Mountain and while in the gondola.
Another opportunity is the train out of North Conway. Well, I can't really say how good the shooting is there but I plan to take the photo tour in a couple weeks and I have great hopes for it.

If you look at my flickr, you will see some images of the "Kanc," and also of Flume Gorge. Both are stunning areas to photograph. Do the small towns in New England, and also the port cities. I will be driving the Kanc this coming Friday, I have been given to understand the colors will be beautiful. Also, another stunning spot is Bar Harbor and its adjoining Acadia National Park.

Take the aerial tram at Cannon ski area, also the cog rail up Mt Washington, if it’s still running. You didn’t say where in Maine? You pretty much can’t go wrong anywhere in the area! Enjoy!

That's a beautiful ride, with nice views almost everywhere. There is a river to one side where people swim in the summer - lots of big boulders and small waterfalls. Be prepared for motorcycles seeing how fast they can go around the curves. And motorhomes doing just the opposite.

Try the app r.g.p.s. Really good photo spots. There’s a free and a pay version. The free version s enough to give you highlights of the pass and the surrounding area. Worth checking out no matter where you’re going.
You will be hitting at peak. I have been going up every couple of Days as it is changing fast. When you are starting in North Conway consider going to the top of Cathedral Ledge and down to Echo Lake then travel to get on the Kank. most people miss the first stop which is Albany covered bridge then onto Lower Falls as you pull out of lower falls once around the first bend pull over and you should have a spectacular color show with huge granite wall. then onto the other stops. the early in the day you can go the better lots of bus and rv this time of year, not many motorcycles because it is getting cold and the leaves on the road are slick. Don't forget to take Bear Notch Road it is after Great Gorge drive it about halfway there is a pull off on the right that gives great vista then continue a little further up and there are two addition pull-offs on the left. Heading up again tomorrow feel free to PM for any other spots
I would just add if you have time, to travel up Rte. 16 (from Conway at one end of the Kanc) for some beautiful wild scenery along the Androscoggin River, past Mt. Washington, up to Errol; go across on 26 (w), to rte.3 (s) and 302 for a nice loop. Or head across west on Rte. 2 and 302 through the towns of Bethlehem and Littleton which are quaint and usually not too crowded with people. Gorham on Rte. 2, has an awesome restaurant called Mr. Pizza, which has all sorts of food with the best onion soup and fried haddock ever. The river runs right by the restaurant. The Basin, by Franconia Notch (Hwy 93) is an awesome easy walk and photography op. Vermont - go up I93 to 302 head west across to Rte. 5, go north to St. Johnsbury and head west on Rte. 2 toward Stowe and Smuggler's Notch; for the way back hit Cold Hollow Cider Mill and Ben & Jerry's both on Rte. 100 right by Waterbury. If short on time, go straight up I93 to St. Johnsbury and then head west on on Rte. 2.
