Hi , I'm Kevin and am brand spanking new to the world of photography as a hobby. My intent is to purchase a camera that can easily be used for family photos ( soon to be a first time grandfather) and the many sights I see as I travel in my work. What little research I've done leads me to consider a mirror less camera with a large sensor and a lens that would fit it the casual novice hobbyist . The camera needs to be small enough to carry in a laptop bag as I travel for work often. My goal is to replicate the blessing I've been given of a pictorial family history for my extended family.
I want to spend the money to print photos for albums as presents etc, electronic sharing of photos would be the bonus but I want to get away from only cell phone images ( yes I know those can be printed but the quality seems lacking )
I've read some good reviews on Sony, Panasonic, Fuji et al but don't see myself well enough informed to make a decison just yet. And from what I've read on this forum there exist a lot of convictions about choice but what I'm seeking is the wisdom needed in making the decision for a newbie ........it appears wisdom abounds here.
Kind Regards, Kevin

Get yourself something simple to use like a Sony RX100M4 or a Fuji X-T20 kit w/ 16-55 lens. "Large sensor" really doesn't apply to your situation, since you've admittedly got a lot to learn about photography.

Start simple. Buy quality gear with good resale value, and learn as you go. With rgenadier’s suggestions, even a mistake will be relatively easy and cheap to correct.

Shoot, process, repeat.

Hi Kevin, welcome to the hog. We were all new at one time. The best advice i can give you is to keep asking questions here. You will get many good answers. Everyone is here to help. Also, go to your local camera store and check out what cameras are on the market...hold them, try them out, ask why this camera is better than that camera, and pick the one that feels most comfortable and meets your needs at the present time. But above all, have fun.

i can't or won't dare to give you advice on equipment; that department belongs to the experts. as to how to get better....practice....practice.....practice. take as many photos as you can, anytime & anywhere you can. read all you can about photography. watch videos on youtube; there are some good ones on youtube & a lot of bad ones; you will learn to weed out the bad ones. when you are finished doing all of the above.....repeat. wash, rinse....repeat. you've heard of pete & repeat in a boat...pete fell out...who was left?

Welcome Kevin!

Don't over look Olympus. You can buy direct from them or you can buy slightly used from KEH.
You can not beat Olympus quality.

Welcome to UHH Kevin, glad you joined us. When you do make up your mind on a specific camera don't over look purchasing a refurbished one. Will save you a few $$$. Stick with reputable firms such as Adorama, B&H, Cameta, KEH and Nikon USA.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.
