What zip code did they issue you? I hear they do that for all Goldwings. Also, I understand you'll be able to take the weather with you as they are large enough to qualify for their own climate. (I'm jealous of that as I ride a BMW GS1200 and I've had days when I was wearing many layers and saw guys on Goldwings riding in t-shirts. Also, we all joke about each other's rides but there is nothing better than being on two wheels and it doesn't matter what two wheels. As a very grizzle dyke on bike (a huge Harley) said to me once when I pulled my Vespa up next to her (before BMW), "Any day on two wheels is a good day little buddy."

I still have my 1989 Honda Goldwing GL1500 which I had it converted to a trike fifteen years ago and it has given me faithful service to this day.

I had a 1976 Goldwing for 20+ years (purchased in 1990 with about 14K miles). When I retired in 2005 I was living in Fallbrook in Southern California so I decided to take a road trip up to Northern California. Stayed at my brother's house in Santa Rosa the first night. From there I headed north on Hwy 1 to Eureka (where I spent the night), then over to Redding and Burney. I wanted to spend the night in Burney and visit the state park but there was a forest fire nearby and all the motel rooms were taken by firefighters so I had to go back to Redding. I was gone for seven days and had a lot of fun and took a lot of photos.
After purchasing the bike I added the after-market saddle, saddlebags, luggage rack, chrome valve covers, floor boards (instead of foot pegs), front fender and clear fairing. Originally the GW was a red color but I repainted it with that green/beige color scheme. I had to order the decals on the side cover from a guy in Australia. The decals on the saddlebags came from a Honda dealer. I thought it turned out pretty good. I know it's not as big and fancy as morrison1116's GW but I didn't pay 20K+ dollars for it.

The first Goldwing I ever rode was my cousins, an 1100 4 cylinder if I recall correctly. I had a Kawasaki 1100 Spectre at the time. The Kawasaki had an inline 4 cylinder engine and the Honda, a flat 4 boxer engine. The Kawasaki was sportier and the Honda was more comfortable. I traded the Spectre in on my first touring bike, a Kawasaki Voyager XII. The new Goldwing is much more sportier than the previous generation. It's almost like a step back in the evolution of the touring bike. Although Honda wants to keep the customer base, they want to tap into the demographic that is interested in long distance riding but still likes a sportier motorcycle. I really like the new bike but it's going to take time getting use to it.

I had a 2003 GL 1800A. I loved it. I also had a 1993 GL 1500A that was a great bike too. I thought the suspension on the 1500 was softer and smoother than the 1800. But the 1800 is more sporty.

The 2018 Goldwing is a ground up redesign from the previous generations. The bike is a little smaller, taller, more aerodynamic, lighter, has a slightly smaller more powerful engine and practically everything is electronic. The throttle is fly by wire. It has no ignition key. It's definitely got a mildly steep learning curve to it. I don't believe they qualify for their own climate any more but they are adaptable to just about any climate one would ride in.
I don't understand why Honda dropped the engine size by 13 cubic centimeters instead of upping it by a few. When HD came out with their new 4 valve per cylinder engines, the larger one was purposely designed to be just a hair bigger than the Goldwing's 1846 CC'S. Had Honda added a few CC'S to the new engine, it would have been larger than HD'S largest V-Twin. Oh well, doesn't really matter, the Honda is still smoother and more powerful than the HD engine. But the HD still gets better gas mileage.

My first 'wing was the 1998 GL1500B. It rode and handled really nice. My 2013 GL1800 was probably the best generation of pure touring bike that Honda made, from 2011 to 2017. The 2018 is a whole new breed of sport touring Goldwing's with a bit more emphasis on the Sport side of the equation. It's going to take a lot of getting use to the new bike as it has little in common with the previous one.

Did you get the one with the automatic transmission?

No, I got the six speed manual shift. I'm not ready for an automatic on a motorcycle, although my wife wishes hers was an automatic.

Yes, I've heard that many times. They may have many of the things found in a car, but you never have to balance a car or worry about it tipping over, and in a car, there is a thick layer between the driver and the rest of the world. Plus many cars today come with air-conditioning, which would come in handy on a bike from time to time. Like my car, with heated steering wheel and seats, the bike has heated grips and seats. Cars also have larger fuel tanks.
