I plan to go on an African Safari.
I know a long lens is imperative.
Has anyone has experience or any thoughts about the Sony RX10 IV?
What about its IQ for prints up to 16 X 20?
It has a 24-600 lens 1" sensor and 20mp.
I am 76 years old and prefer if possible not to carry a lot of heavy equipment.
Many thanks.
Be prepared for a lot of different opinions on what to take Africa?
Have a wonderful time in Africa:

What you have will be fine. Our guide was able to get us within 30 to 50ft of the wildlife. I take two lens 18-200 & 150-600, only used the 600 for leopards and hippos. Have fun the wildlife is amazing.
Many thanks for your prompt reply.

The Sony Rx10 iv will do a fine job. A friend took his on safari as his main camera and all of us were very surprised at the high quality of the images. I, on the other hand, brought 2 cropped sensor DSLR bodies, two lenses for them, a Canon bridge camera, and a P&S. For my next long overseas trip, I plan to purchase the Sony RX10 iv and call it a day!
Many thanks for your prompt and informative reply.
Much appreciated!

I have the RX10 mk iii. I went to california with it and took pictures at the beach from the pier of all the people on the beach. I got a few surfers in the surf as well. The pictures were sharp, and the reach was amazing. You could actually count the strands of hair on some heads that were 200 feet away. It’s become my favorite travel camera for the same reasons you describe. I just don’t want to haul a load around anymore. Bought the camera with a we’ll see attitude and was very impressed. You won’t go wrong. The weight is not bad, the glass is amazing and the batteries last for a decent time but if you go to the bush make sure you take at least three extra batteries with you because you will be snapping away.

I was a Canon shooter for decades. At 73 I decided I didn't want to carry all that equipment around anymore. I sold all my equipment, took a year and bought a Sony RX10 IV. I don't regret it for a minute. I take stage shows that my daughter and grandson are in, the 1" sensor and 2.8 lens allow for excellent results in low light. My other subjects are ice hockey games for my 9 year old grandson. I actually love the camera. Good luck
I had a lumix fz200 before my sony with the sensor size 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55 mm) and printed a 24x36 portrait I took of my mother in law. You could count the hair folicles on her face the the image was perfect at that enlarged size for that tiny sensor. So I am sure the images will be twice as good from the 1 inch sensor on the sony RX10mkiv. I have yet to print any large images from my RX10markiii but I bought it because the glass was the same and the sensor was larger than my fz200. Most of my images get stored on my iPad. I use Fuji too and am impressed with their equipment as well. The 18mm lens is amazing...
Best,
Bill
Enjoy your trip. Any camera and lens will do. You will only want more reach for maybe birds and leopards. The rangers can get you pretty close to the rest. If you're headed to Kruger, remember Malaria precautions.
