Took this not long ago at Perico Preserve just outside of Anna Maria Island Florida. Would like your critique of this image.

This is a challenging composition. I feel like it is supposed to be a story about finding beauty among aging and ugly, but that darned orange leaf is just so overpowering, I can't get past it. Looking forward to hearing what you had in mind, and also other responses. Thanks Don!

Beautiful flower and a nice composition. It looks to me like it might be a little over saturated but overall very pretty.

This is an interesting shot - just the type of thing my wife loves to shoot. I think the problem here is over-saturation - it could all do with toning down a tad. Reckon that will give it a more tranquil feel.

Lovely, I do like the contrast between the leaf and the bloom. And I do like the saturation. I do think I would have preferred the bloom/leaf just a bit more centered in the image. But I do realize that's easy to say while not knowing what's just out of the frame.

I think what moved you would be even stronger in an 8x10 crop with the flower just left of and lower than center. we would see the lovely red leaf, the flower would star, and the other leaves at the top of the frame give us the place.

I agree with Linda about that leaf in the foreground. I also feel that the elements behind the flower are a bit crowded into the top of the frame. The blue water is deep and rich in color which I like very much and the flower is beautiful and very nicely exposed.

I believe that the flower is a bit blown out. There is no detail in the pedals when zoomed in. If the over exposure could be brought down some and the red line on the right of the flower be cloned out it would be a great improvement. Having whites blown out is a common (at least for me) issue when doing such shots.

I like the contrast of the past its prime leaf (patty) next to the fresh flower.

Thanks to everyone who responded, your advice is greatly appreciated. Will take into account your suggestions, rework the image and repost in this thread in the next couple of days.
Linda, I guess what I was trying to express is beauty (the flower) over just the ordinary and dying (green pads and the orange one).

What say you to this rendition, any better/worse?

The composition feels unbalanced with the flower so close to the bottom of the frame and all that empty blue space at top. To tell the story of pristine beauty contrasting against the ordinary and dying, I think there would be more impact with a crop from both top and right side. I've pm'd you one idea

What are the red lines coming out from the flower?
