Returning After an Absence

I have returned to UHH after an absence of almost a year. I felt that some additional education and practice was called for, since I was finding myself 'out of step' on a number of topics of discussion. One effort that I undertook was to participate in a night sky/low light workshop at Big Bend National Park and some of the surrounding areas. Here is an image that I captured during a session in Terlingua, an old mercury mining town on the western edge of the park. Nikon D810 and Nikkor 14-24mm zoom at 14mm and f2.8. Exposure was 1/3 second (it was about 25 minutes after sunset). I will post a couple of additional images in a few minutes.

Looks like my files are too big to live together in a post. May have to do them separately.

If they're large than 20mb, you'll never get them to post. While you've been gone, I put together this post to help with this issue. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-512745-1.html

Thanks for the guidance. I'll try again with a slightly smaller export.

Jack's Bus is an image captured about 4 hours later the same evening, also in Terlingua. Also exposed at 14mm. f2.8, ISO 4000, 25 seconds. Minimal post processing in Lightroom to improve some shadow detail, adjust WB to 4200K to match lightused for exterior light painting, reduce "noise" from residual atmospheric heat. The bright object above the bus is Mars, which appears with some width, unlike the stars, which are true point sources

Brewing Summer Storm is more straightforward. Nikkor 24-70mm zoom at 70mm, ISO 200, f13 at 1/640 second. Overall exposure was adjusted higher to improve overall appearance, and midtones were increased slightly to improve separation of the formation from the background.

I was in Big Bend and Terlingua last year at this time and absolutely loved the place.
Remote, very few people, great hikes and some really good food and did I mention very few people? LOL.
And the photo opps are off the chart.
Its great being able to see the Milkyway at 8:00 PM instead of having to get up at 2:AM
Did you get a chance to try DB's Rustic Iron BBQ?
Maybe the best BBQ I have ever had, Don (the owner is a very nice guy) and can offer tons of info.
Only thing I did that I wasn't thrilled with was the Rio Grande Raft tour. Kind of boring after the first 30 minutes.
Love the pics.
