Another Season Ends...

...A new season begins.

The Hummingbirds are gone. Changed the feeders to seed...set up the blind.

Put out some whole peanuts this morning. The Blue Jays came from nowhere announcing there arrival.

Maybe they were happy to see the blind and associate it with peanuts...maybe not. Who knows what's on a birds mind.

I am looking out my window on the Salvia right now.....they really won’t be gone until after the first week of October as the migratory are still going through.

I would recommend putting the hummer feeder back out.

These are great pictures, as usual.

Hi Joer, I live in the Seattle area and I feed the hummingbirds all through our winters. We mostly have cold and rain along with three or four bouts of snow. When the temperature dips below freezing at night, I bring the feeder inside. When I take it out the next morning, the hummers are there waiting on me. I am the only one I know of in my area that feeds throughout the winter months so the feeder is very popular. Don't give up on them, they are still there.

Beautiful images, Joe and have noticed for the last several years that the birds consume much less food for about six weeks or so-and might as well forget about putting out dried mealworms or such for the bluebirds, but can't blame them with all the caterpillars and insects available! Our hummingbirds are still with us, but not nearly as many butterflies and dragonflies as several weeks ago. I took my blind down because of the hurricane but will need to set it back up soon. Take care!

Thanks Swamp-Cork

I think bird and insect populations fluctuate year to year depending food supply and local conditions. Climate is changing and critters that can migrate to more favorable locations. Its a slow process that started at the beginning of the world and will continue until the end. Mother nature needs no help but we insist on lending a hand.
