I've been following this particular Green Heron for over a month. We are now quite familiar and comfortable with each other.
This has allowed me to get fairly close and not be a disturbance to my avian partner. This has allowed me to get within 20 feet of his selected feeding station with my 80-400mm lens. The following were shot at 1/2000 at f7 with +0.7 of exposure compensation. The ISO was allowed to float. The time of day was 3:30 PM and the lighting was variable.
I had to wait about 15 minutes for this action to take place. By that time my camera holding ability had lapsed and the action sequence begins with the fish already captured. That's the problem shooting handheld with a Nikon D600 and 80-400 rig.
Wonderful series very well done.
WoW -- I see a green heron every once in a while, but find them very skittish. Eighty or a hundred feet is about all I can manage the few times I've seen one perched. Congratulations on your friend making abilities - Awesome shots!!!
Very nice series. Good work.
