DSLR Replacement

I am presently diving with a housed Canon DSLR systems. When I travel I carry two cameras, Ikelite housing, 2 lenses (17-85mm and 10-22mm), 2 ports, twin DS125, along with arms, cables, base plate and CF cards, etc. While it is a great setup and has given me a lot of flexibility I find I am carrying too much gear. Can anyone suggest a simpler setup that would continue to offer the flexibility I seek with less parts and weight?

Depends on what you are willing to trade off. If you want to stay with full frame DLSR bout all you could do is to go with 1 strobe or go to smaller with a brand switch. Going to a non-full frame mirrorless like the Olympus line can down size your kit. I shoot a Canon G15 in a Ikelite housing with a single DS50 strobe. I have the flexibility of wide angle to macro on a single dive but don’t have the potential of the same quality you have with a housed DSLR. You pays your money and makes your choice or hauls your kit.

PS would be willing to trade systems straight up :

I looked at the Ikelite housing for the newer version of the G15 (G7 powershot). How do you trigger the strobes, electronic or fiber optic? Do you have the wide angle attachment? Take a look on my web page www.h2ofotos.com, you will see I have used a point and shoot with a single strobe about 14 years ago and didn't like the single strobe or the lack of TTL. Does the newer model housing and P&S allow for twin strobes and TTL?

I believe if you stay with your ikelite strobes you can get hardwired TTL. My go to guys are Reef Photo And Video. They have been great about answering questions by phone or email and the website has lots of info as well

I’m using a Canon 20D in my Ikelite housing. Ikelite sold this to me 12 years ago and I have every option with the system but with only 12mp Raw files. I would like to get a 60D or old 70D housing with a FL port setup. Ikelite has ports for all desirable lenses. I also have the vacuum system that guarantees a seal before you get in the water with your kit, I think this is only available with Ikelite. Takes the scare out of going down with thousands of dollars of gear into salt water.
