I've been watching green herons around our local park pond this summer. This juvenile surprised me taking off from the bank; I was lucky to grab a shot.

Were you using the 200-400 on this?

I was using my Canon 100-400 II at 400 with a 1.4TC. (560mm)

I've attached a screen shot to show what a lucky grab it was; he almost flew out of the frame before I could react! lol.

1600 @ f8, AUTO ISO 2000. I keep my camera in High Speed Continuous and was able to get off 4 shots before he was gone into another bank willow. #308 was the keeper.

Ty you for the info. You did a terrific job in PP with this. Those rascals are fast when they decide to move.

Thanks, Mustanger, glad you liked it. The stars and planets aligned just right for me on that one. Now I have to work to be able to do that more consistently.

But I'll have to wait until spring. I saw my last green heron of this season here a week or so ago.
