Went to pick up the wife at the airport the other day, Orlando (MCO), and while waiting thought I take a few pics from the approach end of the runway, it beats sitting in the cell lot...

Limited in composition since there was limited parking space and numerous trees at the south end of the runway, not to mention is was the beginning of Rush Hour... Just a few of the beautiful a/c arriving.

Nice. I used to do something similar a few years back. Though my reason for being at the airport was simply to sit at the end of the runway and take photos of planes landing. It was also interesting listening to the vortices travel overhead a few seconds after the plane had passed.

Absolutely Bob. Years ago before 911 you could sit at the end of the OIA runway (parking areas) and watch a/c approach within 100-200' overhead, even had hot dog stands. But alas, that's all gone. Now its even hard to find a place near enough to the runways for closeups. My favorite place is Military bases and photographing tactical jets....LUKE? Love the Sound of Freedom...

There are still a few places near PHX that one can use for Eastbound approaches. They are right across the street from the perimeter fence. Though, I haven't been there in some time. Luke is a bit far for just a drive to photograph aircraft. However, occasionally some F14s and 15s park at PHX. Even at 1/2 south of the final approach path, the noise rattles the windows and blocks out normal conversation. Only the government can produce a machine that converts jet fuel to that much noise. Oh, one also gets a modicum of thrust in that conversion. Oh, and I do agree with the sound.

They've done wonders on Passenger jets with noise abatement on those fan jets, unfortunately can't do that for tactical jets. They need every ounce of thrust they can get. I worked the flight deck of a carrier for many years and talk about noise in a confined space! Yep, loud....Cheers, enjoy the weekend an post some more of those landscapes

Blaster, I've never tired of hearing the sound of freedom our jets produce. There's nothing like it. As for landscapes, not at the moment. We seem to have run low on clouds presently. So, it's time to catch up on some house chores, which are put completely aside during "photo season".

The east end of the runway at Willie is pretty close to the road (the only road into town). Used to love watching the fighter jets swoop in. They'd do touches, so there was lots of go-rounds.
