Exactly!!! I get a LOT of useful information from the Hog, especially from people who actually use the product I have or am considering to buy. I especially like the advice of those who have many years of experience!

Yep!

I never trust any one site for reviews. I always read several, and still may not trust them... they can be. Made up by anyone...

Cards are cheap. I would go to the local store and buy the correct card for your camera. Lexar is good. I also use sandisk.

I have mostly Sandisk and a few others. I was considering Toshiba, Transcend, or Amplim this time. It seems that there are too many negative reviews on the Lexar and Sony cards, which surprises me. I would think Sony cards for a Sony camera would be the best!

I buy a lot of things from Amazon. As a result I get asked to review said products. I always give a clear concise review whether pro or con. I do trust the reviews but if buying a high price tag item if I can I will go to a brick and mortar to actual try out said product or at least see or feel it. I let them know upfront I did the research online and if they will match or come close to the online price, "SOLD".

Your right about one thing, AND I don't care what it is, there is always at least ONE person who trashes the product. You have to read all of the reviews, and if your still not satisfied, do some more asking elsewhere. Call B&H & ask someone there. Call whatever camera store you like and ask them.

Remember, people don't always buy the correct product for what they need, so keep this in mind too.

Thank you for that. I did look on a couple of other sites and Lexar got a lot of bad reviews there as well.

Try https://www.fakespot.com/. Great for checking the validity of Amazon reviews.

I buy directly from Sandisk

That would certainly avoid getting a fake! One reviewer stated that when he inserted the card, there were already pictures on it!

I agree with wrangler. I use Amazon reviews for nearly everything I buy, even if buying it someplace else, but I analyze the reviews carefully too, and I only read the ones that say "verified purchase". Amazon puts that on there so you know they are not just people who put up fake reviews to make the product sell more. I also pay close attention to the 3 star reviews. I read somewhere where most reviewers either give high or low marks because they are happy or not but the 3 star reviews are usually from people who have used the product and have put some thought into how it performs.

I'll look for the "verified purchase". You are right, the 3 and 4 star reviews are more reasonable and believable

Never had any trouble with the Lexar, Toshiba, Transcend, Sandisk, Dane-Elec, etc.... I have a shelf full of Sony Cameras, but I've never bought a sony card (no particular reason) so can't comment on them.

Well, this is ONLY $100 and the camera store is too far to drive for it. All my cameras and most of my lenses I bought at a store where I could hold it. They also honor the price and extras offered by B&H.

I'll just pick one up at Best Buy or Walmart.

Thank you for that info. I'm thinking that 64 GB will be large enough for some short videos (less than 30 minutes).

In manufacturing there always failures, which are sought to meet some limit based on statistics based on grab samples taken on the manufacturing line. You have probably heard of "six sigma." So it is inevitable that one will get a defective card and you should be able to return it for an exchange. About Lexar - they used to be a stand-alone company but someone bought them. Lexar was once noted for making their own semiconductor chips, but I no longer know this as a fact.

I'm new to this forum but have been actively shooting both film & digital for the past 50+ years. During this time I like many of you have bought my share of gear from brick and mortar stores as well as online from reputable outlets like B&H Photo.

In what seems a never ending quest to buy the best for less many turn to internet sources like Amazon...present company included.

But as the old adage goes "let the buyer beware". You don't have to look hard to find many posts detailing pirated, look alike, rip offs especially when it comes to flash memory cards...the Chinese have this down to a sciencencluding packaging that looks convincing to the untrained eye.

I'm extremely wary of photo products/equipment available on Amazon due to simple fact that many 3rd party, e-commerce businesses use Amazon as their store front to peddle counterfeit products. If in doubt ask pointed questions of the seller and if confirm their answers thru reputable sources such as B&H and/or manufacturer.

The price of many of these items is very tempting at times but always remember "if it sounds too good to be true...it's not".

I always keep in mind that Amazon is the biggest market of its kind, so there are going to be both good and bad reviews. Like others point out, the average is an important number. Only takes a few minutes to search for product reviews at other sources as well.

I need a spare memory card for my Sony a7iii and wanted one large enough for video. Currently, I have a 32 GB Lexar SD II U3 150MB/s. I was considering another Lexar card, but twice the size. EVERY review on EVERY card has a reviewer that says something like, "Don't buy this card" or "It's a fake" or " the card failed in the middle of a shoot". etc. Also, hardly any of them show the back of the card, except for the Transcend card (TS64GSD2U3). Both cards are on the Sony recommended list. What say you?

Throw out the highs and lows unless there are lots of them. If 90% of responses are five stars, 8% are two to four stars, and 2% are one star reviews, the product is fine.

I don't buy products online (or from online dealers) that have less than a 3.5 star rating.

I don't look at the reviews myself. I know that I stopped using Lexar a few years back because I had 2 4GB cards fail within a month of each other. I switched to SanDisk and Sony cards and have not had a failure in the past 5 years. So I would not buy Lexar again regardless of the reviews.
