I am happy to take shots as "rough drafts".

I watch considerable youtube professional landscape photographers demonstrate various techniques. The vast majority of these landscape photographer when they are venturing out, in the field, often announce that the "light" is not right or there is no light and they do not take any photos to return to the same location at a later date. Most of these youtube landscape photographers are attempting to take photos during the dream hours during sunrise and sunsets.

The question is how many of us deal with the lack of light the same as many youtube photographers or do we try to shoot anyway even though there is no light. Personally, I have been in many fairly remote areas and since I am there I always take my landscape shots anyway although usually I am disappointed with my results.

Any light is right for *some* subject. Be flexible.

And once in a while, even when the sun is up and the sky is cloudy, you see a good composition and take the picture anyway. The following was taken handheld with a Sony A9 and a Sigma 20mm art lens with a metabones adapter on 3/29/2018 --- the end of winter. I did sit down to put the reflection of the sun on the water behind the rocks in the foreground. The colors are so subdued that sometimes it seems like a black & white shot. This is a picture of Multnomah creek, downstream from Multnomah falls, between the train tracks (off to the right) and the old Columbia River Highway (off to the left). People see this every day as they walk from the I84 freeway parking lot to view Multnomah Falls (90 degrees to the left) in the Columbia River Gorge, in Oregon.

if I am shooting landscapes I am on a tripod so if there is not much light I just extend the exposure to as long as needed to get the shot
