Does the reflection bring value?

This was a "post golden hour" shoot that I had some time to compose shots with and without reflection. I know that they are not the same shots cropped differently, but what is your opinion on composing to include the reflection? Does it add value or make the image to "distant"?

For this discussion, I need to crop these images "square" for a project that I am working on. They will be printed on metal at 10"x 10".

Any and all constructive thoughts/comments are gratefully accepted.

All are very nice but I like the second. If you had been able to get reflection in the second I bet it would have looked nicer. In the first, the Heron is motionless and doesn't stand out to me. In the third, the cat tails seem to take attention away from the Heron. The fourth is very nice but might stand out more with the reflection. IMO Heron always look better when in motion.

Nice shots, but I like the second one best, because it shows action, in both the heron's face, and its leg.

Thank you for taking the time. I agree with the comment regarding the third image. I know I have to keep it "square" for the project. I have it cropped a bit differently and have attached it below. The fourth was not composed in camera with reflection so I don't have the ability to see what that would have been

I think reflections nearly always ADD to the scene, so I like the ones with full reflection. I'm not so taken with the bird having to be in motion, so I would favor a full reflection over motion.

You mean add value? Its a nice shot, but I think it actually detracts from it!

1) Your square crops look good.
2) I would not do a series all the same. Some with reflections, some not.
3) The non reflection shots better (and very nice) because
4) These reflections not clear enough to add value. Heads too far gone.
First reflected shot could be clarified if you do photo touch up.
Redefining edges is just a form of selective sharpening.
5) Big Picture - good reflections add value.

I think the second photo is the best! Reflections are not needed to enhance a photo!
