I had come across this photo while scrolling through my Facebook thread and replied that I perceived that this shoe photo has a gray background and Teal trimming, others perceived it as pink and white. Can someone please explain how this occurs and does this have the same effect when editing photo's on your editing software?

it looks to have a cyan cast where it should be white and a pink cast where it should be gray.

Kinda similar to when printing black and white with a printer that attempts to produce gray shades using colours. Light grays tend to show cyan and dark grays magenta.

It looks like there's a lot of chroma digital noise in the photo. I can see the colored speckles on the stool on the right and on the furniture on the left. I wonder if that is altering the overall color of the shoe.

What color is the stool seat actually? If it has wooden seat, it's probably light brown. The chroma noise altered its color quite a bit.

The person's hand is taking on the pinkish hue also. The person's hand should be flesh colored.

When I downloaded the tennis shoe and altered the image by making trim neutral white, this is what I got.

If you see pink and white in the first image your monitor is way out of calibration.

As rcarol demonstrated, the original Facebook post was fraudulent click-bait.

The original poster simply used the pink canvass of the shoe as the neutral gray which made the laces and trim and laces go green. When rcarol used the trim (or laces) for the white balance the pink canvass was restored.

This may be a color negative; in which case the colors are reversed yellow for blue, magenta for green and cyan for red. Or it could be original colors, intentionally altered colors (possibly by a colorblind person) or just very ugly shoes.
