The color picture is the as taken image. For my taste, I’ve become a fan, at least for this set, of the black and white version. Which brings a different set of considerations when it comes to the tone. I have my preference on the 3 B&W images, however, I be interested in opinions from the group. The image is intentionally cropped for our liking and use. Thank you for any helpful input.

Color is good, it is always good. But B/W is a class all of its own. As for the first one, i feel it is a little to harsh. The third one is a little to soft and washed out. The second one, though not perfect either, is the one i would choose. It has light and shadow areas that are well delineated, and a softer focus than the first.

Gotta go with with the 2nd B&W image. It is less harsh and more embodies a desirable softness to the female form that enhances its appeal. It still maintains the detail and the OP’s lighting skills.

I agree with choosing the second b&w for the reasons already stated--no sense repeating.

I see the “real” color version every day, maybe that’s why I’m favoring the different look of the B&W images. I would agree the first image is a bit harsh, and the third, slightly washed out, but still like certain aspects of both. The 2nd would be my personal favorite.

Thanks Rich for your remarks.

I think the 2nd image is my favorite too, but do like certain aspects of the first and third. Thanks for your remarks!

Nice artsy feel to these. I'm a big fan of black and white images. I don't know what editing package you're using, but it's amazing what simulating the old color filters can do for the contrast in a black and white conversion. In Light Room, I often pick the B&W pre-configured filter I like the best and then start playing with the sliders to see if I can make it better in my eye.

Just an opinion & suggestion but I believe you are ruining potentially good photos due to the cropping for privacy, this photo being another example. My first reaction was "oh, a photo of an arm and it has tits", not probably what you were going for. So, understanding your situation, as a compromise have you considered shooting the whole person or at least including the head, then blur or mosaic the face beyond recognition so we may view the photo versus the puzzle pieces?

As a single image it does little for me, whether color or B&W. Now, as part of a series it could be great.

I grew up with black and white movies, televisions, and photos. My appreciation for color remains great!

Appreciate your feedback, honestly, I have some pictures where her head is not cropped and considered blurring her face, but thought it might look odd. I’ll have to post one to see how well it’s received. As for these pictures, they were not cropped, but taken close up. This is out first attempt at this so still finding our way, thus why input from the viewer is helpful. I’m trying to something “artful” as opposed to “posed” images. It’s trial and error.

I have discovered a B&W lighting technique I use exclusively. Rembrandt Lighting.
