No, Canon does not have a Pro mirrorless, they do however have a new mid-level ff mirrorless!

Bob -With all due respect there have been at least six different topics posted already regarding this camera. And that doesn’t include all the mentions on other websites like DPReview, Imaging-Resource, B&H Photo as well as the plethora of new “fully detailed” videos on YouTube. How can you imagine for a moment that either you or Mr. Rockwell have anything of value to add to that cacophony at this early date? Wouldn’t it be more helpful to let the dust settle on the announcement and let serious research take place before we beat down the doors of our local camera store and rush to buy one? The new Canon appears to be an exciting camera for sure, but it’s not ‘the Second Coming’. — Ralph

Got a Eblast from Adorama on the EOS R. I'm invested in Nikon, but the R looks real good. My initial thoughts are: interesting timing and wonder if Nikon found out about the Canon release and decided to jump first with not quite ready product; I really like the glass that Canon is releasing with the R; like the adapters for their existing glass; much better than Nikon's Z glass; really disappointed in Nikon glass in general because there is better equivalent 3rd party glass in a lot of cases with higher ratings at much lower prices. Really think this is the reason Canon is doing so well as Nikon still makes great camera bodies (well at least up until the Z bodies), but their glass has not been keeping up with the competition like Canon, Sony, Sigma, and Tamron, and Nikon glass is too expensive.

It looks like a good camera, but I don't think this will be Canon's "Pro" line.

I suspect Canon's 1Dx (Mark 3 or whatever) will continue to be their "pro" camera, mostly because of the solid build and weatherproofing. I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think this will eat into the sales of the 1Dx all that much.

Panasonic is celebrating their tenth coming this year... supposedly by introducing a full frame. Anyone here think they’ll sandbag features the way Nikon and Canon have?

Unfortunately It is not rrally a pro-level camera, It's more of an upper mid-level camera. I'm afraid you're also just a little late to the game on this as there were several threads that were started early yesterday.

Just a note on Ken Rockwell, He can be somewhat useful as an additional resource when doing research, but be aware that he is far from an authoritative voice and some of what he says needs to be taken with a very large grain of salt.

Nope...but they may make you pay more to unlock certain features for video.

Perhaps a little harsh to so strongly criticize a relative newbie for passing on information about a new camera.

Yes that’s right.
Canon pro level cameras are the “1” series line.
The “7”series slots in somewhere below the “5” series.
That puts the new ML in the second tier of the pro-sumer lineup!

What does it mean "to be a pro level camera"? If I'm a pro and I buy this camera and use it in my profession, does that make it a pro camera? Or if I profess to be a pro because I make my living via photography and I buy this camera, does that really mean that I'm a phony for calling myself a pro because this is not a pro camera?

Your joking right???
If you're a pro and you use your cell phone camera, suddenly a cell phone is a pro level camera???
The manufacturer designates what PRO cameras are, not me, not you or ANY user!!!
Get real!
