Can't set it up, can't use it for backup, can't use it at all...

If anyone wants it, send me a PM and I'll send it free for postage. You may be more tech savvy than I am and can make use of it, but it's a piece of useless crap for me. It's either sent to a UHH member for postage or tossed in the landfill for me.

If you need to ask, you don't need one.

It's a combination wireless and backup drive. Useless, in my opinion, or at least so outdated that I can't use it.

Compact external hard drive made by Western Digital.
They are considered very good. They come with both PC and Mac software - did it get mixed up?
What problems have you had? We or someone near you might be able to get it working for you. For one thing it is USB 3, is you computer too old to work with USB 3?
I bought one for my daughter to use at university that failed after a few months, but that was about 6 years ago - it got dropped by someone helping her move.

It hasn't failed. It just will not install. The setup PDF is more than useless - following the instructions leads inevitably to "Cannot find webpage" 404 error. Can't connect simultaneously to both Internet and Passport. Software won't update. Installed both Access and Backup software, but neither one will start. Probably just too old for my setup.

Headed for the landfill. After I throw it against a stone wall, just to take out my frustrations.... I also have a good sized sledge.

BTW, my computer is brand new, with a USB3.

Did you go to WD's support page and download the latest software? That could be the problem, software is for an older version of your OS. I see they have 15 different versions of the Passport now on their support site.

Nothing will download. All of the support links on the original drive lead to a 404 error. I think that using my five pound sledge on it may be well worth the small dollars I paid for it...

How old is this drive? What is its storage capacity?

Contrary to the opinons of some, I am not a complete moron.

I have read the manual. I have connected to the downloads. It says it has downloaded and extracted, but after the installation, it does not do a thing. Nada. Zilch. Nyet.

,
I have deleted all the original files and attempted to replace them, but the applications for both Access and Backup will not load and will not start. I am not the most savvy tech guy, but this is incredibly frustrating. It absolutely will not install in a usable manner.

It's a 2 TB drive. I don't know how old it is, but none of the installation instructions work - they all lead to a dead end. I will post photos of me destroying it with that five pound sledge.

Do not use the download links through the Passport. Go directly to the site without going through the unit and download the software.

Did that. Just deleted every KB on the drive. I will try one more time to restore from the website, but if it doesn't work, I'm afraid it's the five pound sledge for me... I have never, ever, been as frustrated with a single piece of hardware or software. I am not a technical moron, although I'm not the most sophisticated user out there.
