I came across this group from a link in another photography website. It’s amazing how much information is out here on the internet, and I’m always happy to find more.
I live in Southern Wisconsin, and I’ve been taking photos on and off for years. I’m not even sure when I got my first DSLR, but it was a Nikon, and I think it was a D40! I loved that camera. Then I traded it in for a Sony NEX7 because the people at the camera store convinced me that mirrorless was the way to go. For some reason I never fell in love with that camera. Eventually my husband got it, and I moved on to another Nikon D5500. I was happy again. But, I’m also an artist, and I really wanted to start getting better reference photos, particularly of my dogs and horses.
I found a beginner’s group on Facebook, hoping to get some help. Unfortunately, most of them weren’t any better than me. But I did meet one “professional,” who also liked Nikon. I should mention that all of my cameras had Tamron zoom lenses that were about 18-200mm with an f4.6 aperture (in good light and not zoomed out too far). This person told me I needed the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 and the 70-200 f2.8 if I wanted something sharp and fast. I ended up buying the Tamron version because they got great reviews and I just couldn’t justify the price difference.
Now I was getting serious, and finding I could get some much better pictures. So before long I thought I needed to upgrade my camera, too, and I got the Nikon D750. Whew! (My husband now has two cameras!!) Finally, I just got a used Nikkor 130mm f2.8 macro lens!!! I’m probably way past my ability, but I’m having a wonderful time. I think I enjoy macro more than anything, but I know I can use that lens for portraits, as well.
I’m looking forward to learning more. I enjoy reading posts and seeing photos from other people.

Welcome to the forum. If you want to get the most out of it, make a commitment to post some pictures on a regular basis and ask for feedback. The worse that can happen is that you will be ignored. If you post to the 'For Your Consideration' you will usually get some more serious critique and useful suggestions.
Thank you. I’m trying to take a photo a day, and not always succeeding. I don’t think I’m a great photographer, so not sure I have a lot to share at this point, but I’ll certainly try.
Hello Anne welcome to the forum post pictures ask questions and most of all have fun. Saying hello from Pittsburgh.
Thank you! It’s been an awful summer in Wisconsin. I feel as though I’m way behind when it comes to photography. Maybe looking to see what others have been doing will be inspirational!
Welcome to the forum Anne.

Anne, you will soon learn that there are plenty of not-so-great photographers here. The point of posting regularly is that it it makes you want to improve, to learn new aspects of photography and most of all - to get out there and shoot.
Thank you for the nice Welcome everyone! It’s fun to see all the different places people are from. How’s your weather?! It’s raining again in Southern Wisconsin, and the flooding in Madison is a “first,” I believe. I’m glad we’re on a hill.
Welcome to the Forum Anne, enjoy.
Welcome, Anne! Lots of good advice here. Post lots of images...sometimes I get busy and read stuff on here (every day) but don't get around to posting my stuff. So try to do better than me, and post away. You'll get constructive comments that will really help. Looking forward to seeing some of your shots.
Welcome to the forum.
