50s Shoot

Here is a sample from a shoot I did with a 50s theme. My intention for these photos is to submit to an agency that I am signed with that represents artists for potential book cover sales. This new venture has changed a bit of my thinking and is truly forcing me to shoot more creatively and with different angles. These are a few of the more traditional shots. I didn't have an assistant to hold lighting for me so we shot at sunset during the magic hour using available light.

You did a remarkable job with these. Wonderful color, especially the last one.

👍👍

Congratulations on the Natural Light theme; in my opinion, it adds tonal depth and demonstrates the creativity in your concept. I particularly like your use of shadowing in the first and third portraits.

Thank you. I often use off camera flash out doors but I didn't want to be bogged down and didn't have an assistant. It was a great learning experience to see what works and to watch the shadows become softer as the night progressed towards a full sunset.

Great work. Posing on the first image with the partially removed sunglasses 🕶 is just perfect. And the lighting on the last shot is also perfection.

Nice work! Sometimes you just have to punt. I think you scored.
Love the first and last one.

Very nicely done! The low sun adds warmth in #1 and #3. I like the diffuse light in #2 - no hard shadows. I have to ask something about photo #2. Is the photo level? I can see the horizon where the ocean meets the sky in the background. It appears to be sloped and the lifeguard tower seems to be leaning.

Nice treatment for your period period piece. You effected the 50s film look.

For out of doors situations, you may want to consider reflector and gobo usage for additive and subtractive lighting.
