My computer broke down, and I have not been able to print for several weeks. I was using a MacBook Pro, and I have now purchased an iMac 27in retina display. I printed with it tonight for the first time, after getting all of my programs set up. Before it printed the first photo, it seemed to be doing a bit of printer preperation (whirring and humming sounds). After about 40 seconds it started to print. The next photo printed immediately. Both, however, are dull and muddy looking, almost like there is a film over the photo which needs to be peeled off. Any thoughts will be hellpful.
Thanks, Steve

Let's start with did you set your printer up properly on your new computer? Did you download the latest printer software for your new Mac? After that, perhaps a print head cleaning routine would be a good idea. Please let us know. Best of luck.

Thanks, Chris. I didn’t realize there is a different printer driver for an iMac than for a MacBook Pro? I guess I can find this on the Epson web site. Is there anything else that needs to be set up on the new computer?

Not necessarily. But, if you have a newer version of ios, you may need a new driver. It's worth a try and it's free!

Thanks. I looked briefly at the Epson site. Apparently there is new printer driver software for the latest Apple OS. Will check it out tomorrow.

I have been having similar issues with my 4900. After much troubleshooting I’m thinking it might be old ink. Just a thought to consider when you have tried all other avenues.

Thanks. Just called Epson. Did a nozzle check, which indicated a problem. In the middle of doing a power check, then will check nozzles again. Hopefully that will work.

Test the printer using the built-in test page and correct driver settings for the Epson Photo paper you’re using. Clean and align heads as needed, using the driver utility.
Once the test page looks great, be sure the iMac monitor is set to NOT EVER auto-adjust brightness, and to NOT EVER use night mode, the feature that adds a yellow color cast in the evening so you’ll have more melatonin production in your brain.
Next, be sure you calibrate the monitor AND custom ICC profile it with a colorimeter and software solution from DataColor or X-Rite. This is the backbone of any color management system.
If prints are too dark, recalibrate and profile. Use aims:
Black Point 0.5 cd/m^2
White Point 85 to 120 cd/m^2
Gamma 2.2
Color temperature 5800K
Next, be sure you are using Epson ink and paper, OR, that you have installed the proper profiles for all third-party papers you print. Select the manufacturer’s recommended paper type in the driver.
Be wary of “double profiling” — You can let your software OR your printer handle color management conversions, but not both. Choose one or the other after testing to see which you like.
Beware of profile mismatches. If your software requires sRGB, but you have an Adobe RGB image, (or vice-versa) you will print a fish wrapper or bird cage liner.[/quote]
