Canvas Printing

I have always loved photos printed on canvas since the first time I saw one. I took a photo and printed it at Costco, I don't remember what it cost but looking at prices online now it's $30 for an 8x8 stretched picture.... I've seen canvas offered in various places online and seen some how-to-do-it blogs, but am interested in what this esteemed group's experience is with it. I have a cheap-o Brother B&W printer at the moment, and have a B&W picture (thankfully) that I want to print.

But -- who makes the best paper? Lyve? [That's the only name I can remember at the moment.] And is there a reasonably-priced printer out there I can use? My wife is going to college for her master's so we have zero extra money!

Canvas prints are pricey, if you're comparing to regular prints. Not so pricey compared to metal ones! Costco is a good buy and do a good job. But even they aren't cheap. Beware of doing some at Sam's. My friend took advantage of a "sale" at Sams and got some canvas ones done. (She does art shows and sells a LOT.) They were on cardboard, not wood, and really flimsy. I'm sure there are cheaper places to get canvas done, but their quality may not be so good either. I've done some on prepared canvas, but then you have the issue of mounting it. Stretching printer canvas isn't easy. I have simply mounted it on Gator board and framed it. And not all printers will print on canvas, so if you're thinking of doing it yourself, check your printer specs.

If you want to print some of your own, try Breathing Color. They have the Lyve paper and some other really fabulous papers. If you look around a bit on their website, they usually offer a $50 free pack of sample papers to newcomers. https://www.breathingcolor.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwsaf8smI3QIVwbrACh0Bww88EAAYASAAEgI_BPD_BwE

Look locally, I print in my area for artist on canvas and paper . My gallery wraps 1 1/2 in thick go for 14 cents a sguare inch but do 9 x 12 @ a special rate for artist that sell at art shows for $20.00 and 12 x 16 for $28.00 . My printer is a 44" Canon IPF8300 ...most artist I print for sell in gallerys so they pay 40 to 50 % to the gallery fees so that is why I make the small prints affordable , and they fit in tourist carry on luggage this time of year I drop my square inch cost to .1245 cents a square inch to help in sales this is when most shows are being held...my stretcher bars are reinforced with plywood gussets and the canvas is acid free 400gsm no obo's and I use Canon Lucia inks only no 3rd party . I print for only a handfull of artist and they keep me busy ..so look for someone local and support them...I gave you specs you should look for from printers my 24 x 36 canvas prints go for $ 104.00 compared to $88.00.@ sams and I am told they are cheap looking ...some printers in my area get $ 145.00 for the same print ....
