These were after 7pm eastern. I’m pretty excited about them.

Thoughts?

Yes, fantastic background. Too bad you did not think to shoot just the backgrounds as well for cloning in on top of later with Photoshop. I know people who shoot goofy textures and patterns for substitute backgrounds. Could be interesting.

I agree. These shots are nice as they are but they would make wonderful backgrounds for other types of images.

Thanks folks.

So, how would I go about that? Just focus on something in the foreground all the way to one side and just crop it out leaving nothing but the background?

Manual focus, i.e. out of focus like you got via the insect. Making additional just background shots. See now we know how you shoot, AF. Good shots anyway!

Oh hell yes. AF all day. My hands shake too much and my eyeballs aren't good enough for manual. But I'll head out there and give it a shot and report back. Thanks!

Wait. Is there some sort of distaste for using autofocus on the hedgehog?

All depends. To me both are valid. I use both. Though for my older vintage lenses Manual focus is the only possibility. Everything and anything bothers some on the UHH. But see, I would know how to get that cool background with Manual focus. I'm getting arthritic and shaky, though my eyes are great thus far but I may have to think about a lighter and a more automated MILC soon myself.

Anyway, you don't have to please anyone else but yourself. Take and leave what advice you want. You'll get every kind of possible response here.
