More unknown true bugs

Canon T2I with 40mm pancake and 39 mm tubes. Tripod. I moved the seed pod in and out to achieve focus. Bright sun on auto except focus.

Similar, but I do not believe so. Box elder bugs, in congregation like that, generally have the parents, sometimes more adults in company. I believe these to be nymphs of the milkweed bug. Family Lygaeidae. Oncopeltus faciatus.

Nice images Bill. By just looking at the pictures on the web I would agree with your ID because the discarded moult at the bottom of the large image is similar to a picture of the moult left by a Milkweed nymph in a Bug guide pic https://bugguide.net/node/view/1417991/bgimage

ah now that you mentioned it that was my experience as well, they are legion around here, stomp on them regularly, but you have to be quick as they are

Whatever they are, good pictures! I only see congregations of milkweed bugs on milkweed seed pods. The type of seed pod could help decide this.

Our box elder are a few weeks away. They are preyed on by Vespids. Last year a bust. This year will get those shots.
