Wait a minute! Who decided what a state's most important invention is? I mean, New Mexico gets the A-Bomb and Idaho gets the TV while Tennessee gets cotton candy and Colorado gets the Tampon?!! C'mon, there has to be something better than cotton candy from Tennessee. At least my home state gets the Segway, that has a certain coolness factor. And New York gets toilet paper...which seems appropriate, somehow.

I'm thinking that Tennessee should be the birthplace of atomic energy. The Oak Ridge facility created both the uranium enrichment and pilot plutonium reactor facilities.
New Mexico was merely the test bed of the processes developed at Oak Ridge.
Washington housed the Hanford facility for atomic energy development.

Every state is fighting over having created crooked politicians. Imagine how wonderful the world would be with sincere, honest politicians. There are very few problems that cannot be traced back to bad political decisions, always involving money and power. I did know about basketball and MA, though.

I'd also have to argue that one of the Commonwealth's citizens, one Alexander Graham Bell, invented a device considerably more important than basketball.
