Hello, A little help please. After my computer did a windows 10 upgrade I can not longer use PSE 14 as I keep getting error msgs such as not enough ram to complete task. Can someone tell me what happen and how to correct the issue
Thanks

My best guess would be to add more RAM - up to the max your computer can accept. As average available memory in computers increases, most software expands, too. So 4 GB of RAM that was OK 5 years ago may not cut it today. I'm running 16 GB of RAM on the computer I'm using right now. Adding RAM is usually relatively inexpensive. Good luck.

As Don suggested, you need more ram. Given that you are using PSE 14, I am going to go out on a limb and say that your computer is at least 4-5 yrs old, and probably minimally configured, without a discrete graphics card, so it uses the GPU in the main processor, and shares memory with the operating system and programs. To see how your system's resources are being used at any time, you can press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up the Task Manager, then select the Performance tab, and at the bottom, the Resource Monitor. It's a very informative real-time capture of how your memory and cpu are being used, and by what processes and programs.

More than likely a newer computer is in your future. It may be hard (and expensive) to source older-style memory compared to current stuff.

Had the same issue I added memory and the problem went away.

Although you should have good amount of RAM for the computer to run well but when it said there isn't enough memory chances are it meant disk space.

Actually, the error messages are pretty explicit - if you are running low on disk space Windows will tell you that precisely. If you are running low on RAM, you will get "Not enough memory available to complete this operation". There is no way that one means the other, or that Windows would confuse the two.

You didn't mention how much RAM you have. Also, did you reset the virtual memory in Windows (control panel/Advanced System Settings/Performance/Settings/Advanced/Virtual Memory/Change), it will tell you what's recommended but I always set it about 35% to 50% of the max (currently running 32GB of RAM). And did you set your scratch disk size in PSE (in preferences/performance)?

The OP didn’t state how much memory was installed or whether his OS is 32 or 64 bits (a 32 bit OS will only support 4GB of usable memory), but I can tell you that an absolute minimum with Windows 10 is 8GB, and of course, 16 or larger is certainly preferred IF the OS is 64 bit.
