Sort of an Erv Time Capsule!

I tried holding a couple of diff mirrorless with various glass, for my hand size I found them a bit smallish and not comfortable, less easy to use than my DSLR's (hand held). On tripod I doubt it would be an issue, and maybe I'll get one someday....as for now, I'm really liking the prices on the slightly older DSLR's. After my old D80 developed the "Err" issue and has become unreliable (|I get a shot at about one out of three tries, by depressing the DOF button at the same time I do the half-press, otherwise it won't take a shot) I picked up a beautiful D90 that I really enjoy, and a D3200 I like too (and I have 4 Sony A-mnt. and like them too). My message - just bundle up all those nasty old dslr's (any brand is fine) and send them to me, I'll give them a loving home!!!!

Everyone, well maybe not every one, is waiting for the big announcement about the soon to be newest MILC cameras from Canon and to some extent, Nikon. There are articles speculating on what the big camera manufacturers have in store and what we should do with our current gear. I read something about Canon finally stepping up to the plate and finally offering a mirrorless camera people will actually buy. I found that article a bit odd and insulting since I own a Canon mirrorless and I'm a person.

So, am I supposed to try to sell my EOS 5D IV on eBay for the best possible price before it's too late, before it's considered next to worthless because everyone else is doing the same thing so they may jump onto the mirrorless bandwagon?! Are the images these MILC'S produce really any better than what I can get out of my D500 or 5DSr? If not then, what's the big deal?

Not according to the google search I did.
Canon M50 #3 on Amazon. Sony models #1 and 2.
Not even in top ten on a lot of other lists.

Canon apparently took the number one spot in Japan for the first quarter of 2018 but those statistics come from Canon. You interpret that whatever way you want :) I do agree that factoid is wrong. They are not number 1 in the world for mirrorless.

There are benefits to both types of cameras, it is wonderful to have a choice and I always welcome new tech.

RM, I did a Mirrorless text drive. Here’s my experience.
I took the mirrors off my car then went for a test drive in heavy traffic.
It was nearly impossible, not to mention downright dangerous!
I put the motors back on and they are STAYING on!!!
No MIRRORLESS for ME!!!!

Great choice Erv. I might be right there with you, holding my D800. After all, when we get to guard those gates, I want to be able to photograph who is going through.

Once you have tried the best EVFs, like I have, I would NEVER ever go back to ANY OVF, ever. Being able to see your ACTUAL exposure, color balance, depth of field, any exposure compensation, histogram , BEFORE you make the shot, is a complete game-changer ! No more chimping either to review my shots, another game-changer for pros. BTW my EVFs and rear screen work great in bright sunlight on my Sony A7RIII and A7III. Mirrorless is photography, and millions of photographers around the world get that, as well as the camera makers. Sorry you don't. Cheers

I have read where you have said this before, but I really wish I knew how you get better AF with your Sony cameras. For the life of me, I find AF on the a7iii difficult at best. I have read books and watched videos, but I still find the AF hard to nail. I know it is because it works differently than on dslrs, but it so easy for me to get focus with my dslrs, that I really don't get this "it's so easy to get af" with the Sony. I also really dislike the EVF and quite a few other things about it. The one use I really have for it is night landscapes with stars, which doesn't involve Af, but here the evf is useful. And, I really don't know if it has the "star eater" problem or not, as I haven't tested it with long shutter speeds. I have read mixed things about it. Even here, shooting it side by side my 5 d mk iv, whatever small differences I have noticed are almost certainly due to the better lens I am using on the Sony.

The mirror in a DSLR has become a limiting factor in the development of higher frame rates and contributes to vibration blur at some shutter speeds as well as potential front and back alignment issues. The added mirror and mirror mechanism hardware also increases the cost of the camera. What-you-see-is-what-you-get in the viewfinder is a plus for mirrorless cameras and is not possible with a DSLR, though some prefer an optical viewfinder.

If you want higher frame rates possibly you should consider a video camera.

If you have a camera that you truly like and are satisfied with, then its market success is not needed to validate your feelings about the camera. Nor does other people's opinion really matter. Only how you feel about the camera is relevant.

VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO does anyone care about shooting Video w thier camera? I haven’t shot a mirrorless camera but I always scare my hummingbirds when I shoot my D4. It would be nice to see how quiet the Sony A73 is. I would also like to shoot some quality video w my camera.

In experienced hands the results are indistinguishable at this point, but they are more feature rich and make the whole process less cumbersome.

Will someone please post the online address of a good source of information on how a mirrorless camera works? Thanks.
