I found that article a bit odd and insulting since I own a Canon mirrorless and I'm a person.

So, am I supposed to try to sell my EOS 5D IV on eBay for the best possible price before it's too late, before it's considered next to worthless because everyone else is doing the same thing so they may jump onto the mirrorless bandwagon?! Are the images these MILC'S produce really any better than what I can get out of my D500 or 5DSr? If not then, what's the big deal?

MARKETING....Reviews sell magazines and give websites 'hits' to satisfy other marketing. I would love a D5 but it is always out of my price range.

Photography moves forward....some keep up and some don't. But, the company that doesn't respond to what 'The Market' supposedly wants will be the next 'casualty'. Perception is all important - not fact!

People will always find a justification for what they buy....even junk!

Worry about what broke....not what you 'get told to buy' next.

Unfortunately, the hype makes it difficult to have a serious conversation about the strengths and weaknesses of mirrorless alternatives to dslrs.

I don't believe hype is the issue. More like the MILC camp trying to convince the DSLR camp that DSLR'S are bad and MILC'S are superior imaging devices; the old my dog is better than your dog thing. By the way, I do own a MILC.

So do I, but I can't shoot it reliably enough yet to even imagine that it might replace any of my dslrs.

The only way I see mirrorless replacing my DSLR'S is if they stop working. I learned real quick the mirrorless I bought is just too small for my hands. I still use it and I'm adapting to its size but I still like how my DSLR'S feel.
Will I buy another MILC? Probably; I'm in no hurry so that will give Canon plenty of time to market a nice full frame with real world Canonesque ergonomics.

I'll certainly keep my DSLRs and lenses. I make great images with what I have and if something better comes along I will slowly change. Isn't that what happened from film to digital? You cannot ignore progress.

The mirror in a DSLR has become a limiting factor in the development of higher frame rates and contributes to vibration blur at some shutter speeds as well as potential front and back alignment issues. The added mirror and mirror mechanism hardware also increases the cost of the camera. What-you-see-is-what-you-get in the viewfinder is a plus for mirrorless cameras and is not possible with a DSLR, though some prefer an optical viewfinder.

It can't increase the cost of the camera if one already owns it.
I do like the EVF on my M50, but it's not my first camera with an EVF. Now if some wizard engineer could design a practical hybrid view finder, and optical or EVF for a DSLR; that would be cool. I like the simulated 30FPS I can get from my 5D IV, to bad there's a nasty crop when you pluck stills from it.

I am sure what you meant to type was, Everyone, well maybe not every one, is waiting for the big announcement about the soon to be the newest MILC camera from NIKON and to some extent Canon. No need to thank me, your welcome.

Canon mirrorless is the best selling mirrorless in the world by a good margin right now.

Thinking back I remember when Nikon first went digital and I got my D100. Wow! Had to get a new flash as my old Nikon wasn’t compatible. Also needed new accessories as my old wasn’t compatible. Then a few years later as Nikon tweaked out changes their newer cameras used a different flash sync, so I needed a new flash for my D7100 and new remote shutter control etc., etc. I think it would be wiser to wait until they tweak a new mirror less camera before one blindly jumps in. It would be a real disappointment to me to find that with their proposed lens adapter only some worked, but not all or they didn’t work optimally.

On second thought, I hope everyone jumps on board! My chance to pick up some great Nikon glass, second hand, cheap! Life is great!

Erv,

You'd better take a very strong flash with you too.

It is only a Big Deal Stressor to Gear-heads with G.A.S. I still have cameras from the Seventies and Eighties, plus older 2006 > to < 2014 DSLRs. See my tag-line.

I would much rather have sensor improvements than a new camera body. Wouldn't it be better if the sensor sensitivity (ISO) could be adjusted to 500,000 ISO without any noise or dynamic range improvements where all detail in the shadows are captured (nothing lost). To me the advantages of mirror-less cameras are not as important as image quality.

This is no knock against mirrorless, but merely for clarification. So, if I understand what you're saying, if I don't shoot in burst mode, use mirror up before taking the shot and use live view, then a mirrorless camera will not bring that much to the table for me. As for cost, I haven't seen any of the better mirrorless that are particularly cheaper than the better DSLR's.

My case as well!

Not according to the google search I did.
Canon M50 #3 on Amazon. Sony models #1 and 2.
Not even in top ten on a lot of other lists.

In the first place, the images from mirrorless cameras using good glass are of excellent quality. Although I have been using Olympus cameras with Olympus and Panasonic lenses I am not going to sell my dSLR cameras and specially when we do not know how good the mirrorless camera from Nikon could be. Sony is doing very well with their full frame cameras and precisely yesterday I talked to a professional photographer from Islamorada in the Florida Keys who has plans to buy one. She presently uses a Nikon 3DS.
My recommendation is that you keep what you have. Lets see what Nikon and Canon have to offer.
