A couple of photo's from our trip to Mammoth Mountain in California. We traveled around for a couple of months with another couple, but for one week we had our kids, grandkids and our kids friends with us. We had a camp of 31 people and 9 dogs! LOL!

Our campsite.

I was there a few weeks ago with my drone. My shots look very similar. I even got a shot for Mono Lake way in the distance from our campsite.

Nice shots Rena. Haven't visited that area since the 60's. As I recall, there was a pretty large indigenous mosquito population in that area! When we last visited that area we were camping out and one day our white boxer dog came in covered in black. We thought that it was mud but closer examination revealed that she was covered with mosquitoes. Poor animal's lips were all swollen and we had to give her antihistamines.

Very cool jeep_daddy, would love to see your Mono Lake shot! I am a super novice and am very nervous around tall trees so this a big deal for me, I need to get over it...LOL! Thanks for looking! :)

Hi bcheary, your poor pup! We have been there several times and not had that issue, perhaps they worked on it and it is better now.

The first one is from camp. We were camped at Hartley Springs Campground. The trees were tall and like you, I was afraid to fly in the tall trees because you lose sight of it almost right away. So I just flew it straight up above the trees and hovered there and did a few 360's and took some pictures there. When we went to Laurel Lakes, I flew it around both lakes, but the area was very rocky and so taking off and landing was tricky. You need a high clearance vehicle and 4 wheel drive to get up there and it's over 9,000 feet up. Here's a map link to Laurel Lakes. When the googlemaps opens you'll have to click on the magnifying glass to have it take you to the lake and same for the campgrounds.....

Thanks for sharing, I love the lake shots! I am a terrified novice...lol! My adult children bought it for me for Christmas and I have promised myself that I will get better at it! We dry camped at 9000 feet, that said I don't think we could get our trailers to Hartley Springs. I pulled up a few photo's and it looks quite nice! We fished at Gull Lake with the Grands, no time for the drone on that day! Thanks for the links I will share them with my husband, it will be a few years before we return since we have the next couple of years mapped out.

I got to Hartley Springs before any of my friends did and held 2 adjacent campsites. 3 of my friends towed trailers and 1 of them was a huge 5th wheel trailer. There is only one spot where the dirt road is soft (sandy) and if you keep your speed up you'd make it just fine. Hartley is basically dry camping since there are no amenities other than outhouses which is one tiny step up from dry camping.

Glad you liked the pics. Just make sure you do all the firmware updates on your Mavic, the controller, and the batteries. Set your return to home height to something way above the highest thing you will be flying around every time you fly at a new location. I flew mine near the Queen Mary ship in Long Beach and lost signal. It returned to home by itself and it was recording as it did. If it weren't for collision avoidance it would have run into the mast and a stack on the huge ship. I learned to check my RTH altitude after that. I got lucky.

We did the same, two of us held the spot for an additional 5 trailers. Since you say larger trailers can go there we will def. look into it, always nice to have choices! Thanks for the drone tips, I will def. remember to do that!

We will be heading to Arizona in the fall where there is a lot of wide open spaces so I should get more practice!

Thanks Again!
