Thoughts.....
>Aspen Vista about ten miles or so north on Hyde Park Rd.....beautiful fall colors
>Puye Cliffs - on tribal lands
>Valles Caldera - a 14 mile wide volcano, if you watched Lomgmire this is where his cabin was.
>the high road to Taos - goes through many small towns, hamlets, see many missions, vistas, etc
>Randall Davey Audubon Center on north canyon road (Saturday a.m. bird walks, free.)
> Mesa Prieta (check out the scene of Moonrise, Hernandez by Angel Adams on your drive there)
Also check out O'Keeffe ranch, they have tours with guides that take you to the various sites where she did a lot of her painting. the tour will last almost an hour, and you learn so much about her.
So many places! How much time do you have? The Turquoise Trail that heads back down toward Albq has lots of old towns on it. My best suggestion is Rancho de la Golondrinas. It's just south of Santa Fe. It's a restored old ranch with original and some not original buildings with people there working. The day I was there they were baking apple pies and bread in the ovens. YUMMMMM! There was a silversmith, a tinsmith, a blacksmith, and a couple more people. Very interesting. Very photogenic. I meant to stay 1/2 hour. I was there for 4 and took hundreds of photos. It's on the west side of the highway just a little south of the intersection where the bypass rejoins the freeway.

You should have a ball with the IR camera abd the old adobe churches, building details and walls. You will have very dark skies with IR especially with BW renditions due to the altitude (7000 ft).
if you want a project shoot doors. there are many and very beautiful. great location.

Check out Tent Rocks just southwest of Santa Fe. I can’t remember the official name of the park.
Long name, but worth the trip to see them...officially they are called - Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument.
If you make the trip to Ghost Ranch also consider stopping to see Plaza Blanca in Abiquiu. It does require a bit of hiking, but it's an easy hike.

Beautiful place! Don’t overlook Madrid, just outside of town, if you loved “The Wild Hogs” movie with John Travolta. It was filmed on location in Madrid (the entire town is about 2 blocks long). If you’re not a fan of the movie, don’t bother.

I have been there numerous times. A photographers paradise. Be sure to do the High Road To Taos Drive, Bandalier, Abiquiu, Taos Pueblo, Chimayo. PM me for details.

I would second the day trip suggestions regarding Taos, Ghost Ranch or Bandelier. If you happen to go to Taos, consider making a loop by taking the high road up (quaint villages along the way such as Trucas) and the main highway back. In addition to the Taos Pueblo, there is the iconic Ranchos de Taos Church (made famous by Paul Strand). Along the way Church at Chimayo is another great photo op.
The suggestion of El Rancho de las Golondrinas is a good one, but call them to find out what activities are going on. Check their website at golondrinas.org.
Try to hit Indian Market!

Ooooppps! Nevermind!! I cannot delete my post and I obviously read that so wrong!! (My brain said San Antonio.) Ooops! But do be sure to go to the Sante Fe Railyard Farmers Market. Really nice this time of year.
And just down the road is a wonderful little historic mission called Chimayo, famous for "miracle sand." People make a pilgrimage there on holy days, such as Easter. In Sante Fe, you will want to see the inside of the Cathedral Basilica, and other historic shrines.
I was going to post a comment....... "This stuff isn't in Santa Fe NM, it's in San Antonio, TX!"
Been to and found many great photo ops at both.
