First time photographing a roping event

Just went to our local county fair and came upon a roping competition. Armed with my new X-H1 and a 50 - 140 lens, I decided to try out my timing skills. Over the years, I have tried my luck at shooting just about all of the regular subjects. This was my first time shooting something like this. One thing I learned is this little camera does a great job. I was not afforded any extra freedom of movement so I shot between the railing. Feed back would be helpful.

This is a great shot hillbilly. Perfect timing, and being a straight on shot with hand extended and rope around calfs neck wonderful! For the first time you nailed it. Post more. Thanks

Tom

I am not new to photography, but this is the first time that I have ever had the opportunity to try this. I appreciate the nice statements. But realize that beginners luck and a fast shutter can over come a lot.

you did a GREAT job
isn't it amazing at an event like this how many photos you can take to get a few "keepers"
at least it is for me!

You are absolutely. I was only there long enough for 4 different ropers. And thanks to the speed of the camera, I came out with three shots worth keeping.
