Ok folks, i have a converted Oly em-5, I need to know, anyone have experience with IR? Best zoom for IR? I have a kit 14-42 that hunts about like a cocker spaniel, I’m looking in the range of 12,14-60. Maybe the 12-60 pana, not the Leica, but I don’t know about hot spotting with any of the lenses, I’m familiar with the sites offering cameras for sale and their lens recommendations are rather incomplete.
Willing to entertain out of the box solutions also, primes, 4:3’s m43’s etc.

Wow, I am glad you asked... I am getting educated later today by reading and understanding [yes, you will get a lot of opinions and stories about UHH Dear Aunt Sally's IR work, but sorry Science Prevales]:
https://kolarivision.com/the-science-of-infrared-hotspots/

This may help you, "Another big factor. Without fail, if a lens has any hotspot issues they are more mild wider open and more pronounced at small apertures." from the cited text.

I just bought a Panasonic ZS3 and converted it. IR filters are external and held with magnetic material. Vastly superior to my first conversion 12++ years ago, a Canon G2. This far no hot spots nor hunt and sniff for focus. But I may take those claims back because today I am going out at NOON, hot time... for full testing.

The camera was $100 and I think never used !.... Conversion took me 45 minutes... very easy... The G2 took full day and was difficult.. ZS3 only 6 screws and case was open... un lock two ribbon cables and then 3 screws... ulta thin hot mirror, did not replace with glass. While the ZS3 does not do RAW... well I do not do much IR work so that is fine. Fun is the thing.

If you go to kolarivision.com look for their lens hotspot data base. It’s under everything you want to know about Ir.
