Long reach for a small heron . . . !
I've been following this green heron for several weeks. He has been very cooperative. His nest is nearby and has fledged at least two young.
BTW, he was after some sort of bug this time. he captured and ate a huge bullfrog the day before!
Extreme concentration, totally applying himself to the task at hand. I'd hire him in a minute
Terrific "decisive moment" shot!
Nice capture! This is one of my favorite birds to photograph.. Grandpaw
Fantastic feather detail! (Auto or manual focus?)
I use manual for exposure but continuous AF set at single point. Though I will use 3D when the scene allows for good separation of the subject. This particular pond is full of duckweed and provides perfect conditions for the use of 3D AF.
Thanks to all for your comments.
I'll locate and post the GH and bullfrog series later on today.

Here we go again - learning something very important from a post on this site!
The lens I purchased the other day mostly for the f2/8 capability has that feature but I didn't have a clue what it does. (Read about it in the manual but had to google your comment for a better explanation.)
Good focus and capture that tells a story.
First class work, Warren!
S-t-r-e-t-c-h! Good shot, Warren~

Still learning...There seems to be a different sort of learning curve using this lens feature. It's interesting how many times I've checked the battery power because the image doesn't freeze while pushing the cable release half way when setting up the shot.
Yeah, yeah, some old dogs take a while to learn a new trick.
So far all is well though, it does work.
