It was point and shoot in the real sense. Manual focus camera shot from the hip with no thought given to focus or exposure. It's always worth giving a shot a try

No, it is not all bad. I like these kind of photos and have tried the technique myself. It's harder than it would seem and I think this composition with just the lower parts of the legs visible has great impact.
