I take two lightweight cameras on these trips, one for wide and one for long. How lightweight is up to you. Sony Nex size bodies are good, but the lenses, especially the longer lenses, are a bit too heavy for me. I prefer two micro 4/3 (lenses staying on each) or two good point and shoots. On the off-boat tours you will be moving too quickly to change lenses. My lens focal lengths do overlap some.

FYI, for what it's worth, Uniworld has a better rating. We will experience that cruise in October. Given that, these comments are quite interesting. To this point, we've only taken Atlantic crossings and Mediterranean cruises.
You will ABSOLUTELY LOVE Uniworld.
The appointments are luxurious, there is usually 150 guests and 48 staff on each ship. The food is frankly amazing, each evening's dinner uses locally sourced foods and wines with impeccable attention to detail. And the shore excursions are very well thought out. Sailing up the Rhone in France, there was a wine tasting tour in Provence, which we missed because we did not sign up quickly enough. Tour Director went out of her way to book a special van tour for us and 2 other couples going to different wineries.
Which ship and what cruise?
Thanks for all of the comments. I will take my camera, the 18-200 and the 10-18. plus the pocket camera. Eveything else stays home. Sure makes things easier to carry. More space for souvenirs for the grandkids.
We went on the wine tasting tour in Provence. One person on this tour didn't quite fit in. After the wine maker described the wine and then had us taste it, this guy would chug them in one gulp. Then he said, "I didn' taste none a' them there things" after each tasting. Afterwards he said he said, "Them tastes wasn't there" and "Should'a stayed home, gone elk huntin' and drinkin' Bud Light with my buddies." His comments on the ship food and everything else were similar. To us it was a great show, but he was serious.
