I was just wondering what lenses you guys who have had this mirror less camera for a while are using and liking. I was going to get an adapter so I could use my canon lenses on it during this Uk trip but it got lost and delayed in the UK postal system so I ended up without it for this trip and now am wondering if I just sell off my canon lenses and buy new native ones to suit the camera

A friend of mine has a Metabones adapter for her Canon 18-105 lens on her a7Rii but it does't autofocus. Some say that the Sigma MC-11 adapter works best. I advise going to a camera store with your lenses and camera and then try out the adapter.

That’s one of the reasons I was thinking of native lenses as I have read bad reports about adapters and auto focus breakdowns and lost shots!

I have all Sony the Kit lenses for my a6000, 16-50 and 55-210 I am happy with them. I also have a LA-EA3 to be able to use my A-mount lenses. I doesn't AF all my lenses so I have a LA-EA4 on the way. But all my E-mount lenses, whether they are FF or APS-C work fine. I have used older Canon AE-1 manual film lenses on my a6000 with $10 adapters. They worked fine, But strictly manual.

Because of losing the adapter in the post I decided to buy at least one lens for this trip and got the 55 -200 but find it’s not wide enough for general shots . I was hoping that Tamron would make a 16-300 to fit E mount as I do love the Canon mount one I have but they don’t yet

Sigma is currently working with Sony. They have E-mount and adaptable (MC-11) lenses for your a6300. I have a sigma 150-600 and Sigma MC-11 on the way to me. The Sony 18-135 and 18-105 have good reviews. there is also a sony 18-200, all in E-mount.

My kit lenses make for a small travel package. The a6000 with the 16-50 is jacket pocketable and the 55-210 fits into my other pocket.

Sigma has an 18-300mm in canon mount but it is MC-11 compatible. ($399) on the Sigma site.

I have the A6300 and the two kit lenses that come with it. I am satisfied with them. However, if a long zoom range isn't what you want or need, the 18-105 ro 18-135 are both very good lenses. The Sony 18-200 is also a good lens, but a lot more expensive than the other two.

If you’re looking for an all in 1 lenses, the 18-200 is good if you get a good copy. I would also pick up either the 24 or 35 to hit speed and low light needs.

I prefer the 18-105 f4 which is a good fit and then again compliment it with the Zeiss 24 or 35 to hit low light needs.

You can also get the Zeiss 24-70 f4(watch your copy), the 70-200 f4, and again pair it with a low light prime and you’ll have a pretty full kit.

It’s a great camera and those lenses are pretty comparable.

The canon lenses will work just fine and I see them paired all the time, but if I remember correctly (been a while since I shot Canon) they are a bit heavier than most of these. The 18-200 may be a bit on the heavy side but a good copy can produce great images in a wide span of lengths.

Good luck and enjoy the camera!!

I have the A6000 and several (too many) Sony lenses.
My opinion:
The Sony 18-105 F4 G is my most loved and most used. It pretty well covers everything I need when traveling. However, if I were looking to get one now I would also take a good look at the new 18-135 before deciding because it is bit smaller and lighter than the 18-105 but doesn't have the constant F4.0.
The kit 16-50mm is great for when you just want a combo to carry in a jacket pocket, but the range is a bit short.
The Sony 35mm F1.8 is a really nice 'normal' lens. I use it mostly at family occasions. It is a nice portrait lens and very unobtrusive. Consider the full frame FE 28mm f2.0 as an alternative.
The Sony Zeiss 24 F1.8 is an excellent lens, but pricey. I have taken some lovely landscape shots with it, but to be honest I probably wouldn't spend that much again.
The Sony 55-210mm is my least favorite lens. It is a bit too slow and I don't have much need for that range. However it is very lightweight and compact if you want the longer reach.
I had the Sony 50mm 1.8. It is a nice light, sharp lens and not too expensive. However,I couldn't find much use for a prime at that length so I sold it.
The Rokinon 12mm F2.0 is a fabulous fast wide angle. It is my only non-Sony e mount lens. Great for night / Milky Way shots. It is bare bones manual everything, but there is something about the build and feel of it that just makes you want to go out and shoot with it.
If you can, sell your Canon lenses and just go with Sony. An adapter defeats the whole light/compact attraction of going mirrorless in the first place.

From the discussion following your inquiry, it appears that you are really and specifically asking about zoom lenses...not primes. Correct?

Thanks guys for all your advice. That’s one of the great things about being a member here . I wasn’t really being specific Le Boecere I just wanted to see what worked for my fellow Sony shooters

I shoot mostly "street", and casual events + whatever snapshot catches my eye ~ a lot of it in low light, and in a "decisive moment".

On a recent trip to the Colorado "Front Range" (of the Rocky Mountains), my bag held an a6000 +...

1) "Zony" 24mm f/1.8 [SEL24F18Z] ~ for general touring

1) (Chinese) Sony 35mm f/1.8 [SEL35F18] ~ for "street"

1) (Chinese) Sony 50mm f/1.8 [SEL50F18] ~ for casual portraiture

1) Sony 55-210mm [SEL55210] "kit zoom" for granddaughter's softball games & trips into the mountains.

I use the standard Sony 16-50mm on my A6000, but most often I use a Tamron 18-200mm. I don't like changing lenses, and the 18-200mm works for me.
