Hello!
I’m heading to Switzerland (first time) for a gig in a couple of months, and I’ll have about 4 days of free time to roam around!! I have a car if need be. Has anyone on UHH been there? If so are there any recommendations for cool things to see, do, and shoot that may be off the beaten path? I plan on spending as much time hiking, eating, and seeing the country as possible!

Near Zurich or Geneva?
These are on the French side:
Chateau de Chillon
Gruyere
Leysin
Zermatt
Eiger north face. It'll take a couple of days, but worth the effort.

I’ll be around Montreux mostly, but I can get around! Thank you for the response!

There are so many places to see! Thank you!
Been a very long time ago but I still remember the wonderful landscapes and the rosy cheeked kids and young ladies (street photography). You can Google "top things to see or do" in area you will be but those lists off miss the people and every day opportunities.

The Swiss Rail system is unbelievably excellent. Consider day trips to Zermatt for the Matterhorn, the Reichenbach falls for Sherlock Holmes fans, to Berne, Zurich, etc.
Where are you being based in country?

I know! I’m really excited about the landscapes mostly. I get to do some filming in a couple of cool places before so I’ll probably do some extra shooting in between! Out of all the places I’m booked so far this year, this is the one I’m most excited about!

I’ve heard that! And Reichebach Falls is on my list!

I’ll be around Montreux, Forel, and Montbovon among others.

Oh, and in-between shooting don't forget to try some rosti - thinly grated potatoes pan-fried - and Swiss cheeses and chocolates. Have to keep up your shooting strength!
The entire Kleiner Scheidig. Where the movie "Eiger Sanction" was made is breathtaking. It is above Wengen, and has a cog railway or a tram to the top. Interlaken (Boat rides) is on the way. Zurich is a treasure--see the Chagall Stained glass at the Muenster (Sp?) church, and take the boat rides EVERYWHERE, but on the Zurichsee (Lake Zurich to us). Also at the very southern end near Locarno, is Ascona, A remote almost Shakespearean (many pays set in Verona, not that far away) village on the Northern end of Lago Maggiore bordering Italy.

The Rail and Bus systems are synchronized like a swiss, er, watch! My problem in driving is my inability to read street signs in German and my slow French. Maybe car Navigation has taken care of that. I was fascinated that I could check my luggage for my return Air trip to San Francisco at the Ascona Swiss Rail Station. Our bags were stacked and wrapped and sent off the night before leaving us with carry-ons to travel to Zurich airport from Ascona the next day. They arrived in SF (or I'd never suggest it) all wrapped and clean--the Swiss Way.
I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Switzerland is even more photogenic than here--Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, included. I've hosted a dozen Swiss Exchange Students, and they say my area makes them think they never left home. Take every moment to enjoy the country, the people, and the food. And fill up as many cards as you can.
As wonderful and the rail and bus system is the Swiss Mountain Hut system is also beyond excellent. You can hike and stop for a drink, meal or a night. It makes a two or three day hike into the mountains feasible without camping. They are reasonably priced, CLEAN, well run Hostel style accomodations and the food is simple, heaty and good. And BEER abounds. It is highly likely with a little guidance that you could make a circular route returning to your vehicle or to an appropriate Bus/train. Bring good hiking boots--the Alps are the REAL Deal!
With Swiss Envy, good luck,
C
