Going to go swim with the whales!

And of course, I want to document it.

I’m also eventually going to be swimming in the great barrier reef and going back to the Galapagos islands… Plus general snorkeling and scuba.

I’m Trying so hard to figure out which camera I should get a housing for. I have the Olympus OMD EM1 Mk2 OR should I do my Sony a7riii??? Or the Sony RX100 V?

So freaking expensive!!!

Help!!

No bad choice here. Housing any DSLR is not going to be inexpensive. Don’t forget ports and gears depending on what lens you are going to be using.

I would start a conversation with the guys at Reef Photo who can talk you through your option for these cameras and others.

First question you should ask your self is how serious are you going to be about your UW photography.

It can get expensive quickly. Big time aluminum housings can be several thousand dollars. Low end flashes are useless for anything other than macro.

You don't need new stuff. ebay can be your friend. You can find older Oly epm-1 and a housing, port and kit lens under $250. Add on a Sea and Sea ys110 or similar flash for under 500 and a generic tray and strobe arms 150. under 1000 and you are in business.

On the other hand new aluminum housings can be 5000 before you buy the port and zoom or focus gears.

You may also consider a mid-range point and shoot and a plastic housing. You will still need a flash

The Olympus branded housings are relatively inexpensive. Most are depth rated to 150 feet or so. You may want to consider a flash. You can also go with a grey card or white card and shoot it at the same depth at which you will be shooting and white balance off of it. Color changes enough to matter every 5 feet or so at depth so you may be shooting a lot of cards
