Anyone had good/bad experience with District Camera, specifically with Nikon?

Planning to upgrade to D5600, but planning beyond that.

Looks good

They were a long-time local chain in the DC area. I've purchased at their shop in DC that was what a camera store should be like, but I thought they'd gone out business. Maybe not.

I've been to their store in Burke, VA several times. I haven't been to their Washington D.C. store. I purchased a Profoto 33" umbrella there not long ago. The umbrella was defective. They were very attentive and arranged for the repair with Profoto. I sent the umbrella directly to Profoto for the repair.

Have you been to Ace Photo in Ashburn? It's near Dulles Airport. The amount of inventory they have is incredible. They have a warehouse area in the back and get up on ladders to reach everything.

You may have been thinking about Penn camera. At one time, they had seven stores around D.C. They were then purchased by Calumet. After Calumet took over, they kept three stores open for a while. Now they're completly gone. I liked their stores. I purchased my first digital camera there.

Thank you! Its over 15-years and now you give the Penn Camera name, my memory now makes becomes a bit clearer.

Ditto for Ace Camera in Asburn; they have a huge selection of lots of the small things: backpacks, cases, tripods, miscellaneous accessories, etc.; make at least one trip there to see for yourself

Ace Camera is excellent - wide selection. Service Photo in Baltimore is fabulous. Service is excellent, knowledgeable, and friendly. Prices are very competitive.

Ace is a much bigger store with a lot more of the smaller stuff; I have been to Service once, many people love it, and , speak highly of it, also

Ace in Ashburn is a great store. I’d certainly check them out.

Thanks.

I really want to go in person if I can find a good store and it sounds like I have two (buyers need competitive sellers).

I am south of DC on the Virginia side, so Burke and Ashburn both seem like choices.

I've used District Camera several times - always a good experience. I bought my 6D there plus some used equipment. Also have used their repair service a couple of times for flashes. I've never had a bad experience. The store is family owned but is very small. Ditto everyone's comments about Ace. They also have a store in Falls Church but never seem to have the inventory I'm looking for. The store near Dulles is beautiful.

I've also been wanting to take a trip to B&H. Apparently, they're very close to Penn Station. I could take Amtrak to Penn Station and just walk the couple of blocks from there. It would be about a five hour Amtrak ride one-way for me.

I went to B&H for the first time a couple of months ago. I wasn't buying, just looking. It is truly impressive and the staff was excellent, incredibly friendly and helpful.

RE: Ace Camera....PLEASE be aware, that there are NO RETURNS FOR ANY REASON. They make you go through the manufacturer. No exceptions. I have had relatively few returns to B&H, but they sure take care of the customer. Beware of Ace's policy.
