I just ordered a Celestron 130SLT, with the camera adapters. I have a Nikon D7200. I'm hoping I will catch on quickly. Hope to post some pic's to see what you guys think.
UH OH...watch your wallet. Looking forward to some pix!
I have this model- nice beginner scope- I suggest a set of sorbothane-type pads for the tips of the tripod feet to set in, as well as sacks of rice to put in the tripod tray area, both to help stability and reduce vibrations. I also got the AC adapter since the AA batteries would wear out quickly. I have not tried a camera mount for it, be interested to see how that works out for you! Also just got some upgraded Celestron eyepieces, the Excel-LX line for a wider field of view and better glass. Have fun!
Thanks for the info. I will post pics when I get some. I received the scope last night, but did not get a chance to try it out because of overcast.

You'll have a blast. But it will really try your patience.
Still, a lot of fun.
I think Astrophotography is the most fun I've ever had in the back yard with my clothes on...

You should get some really wonderful skies out there in Tehachapi. Isn't that on the western edge of the High Desert?
Thanks.Tehachapi on on the southern part of the Sierra Mountains, on the western edge of the the high desert. At 4000'.

Well, mine have proven to not be all that interested.
Too spoiled by the Internet to have the patience for Grandpa's fiddling. LOL!
Even the two year old can play on a phone or pad/tablet.
Kind of amazing to me.
But I've been starting them early anyway. Computers will be natural (are natural) to them.
First time I resolved Saturn in 2015, it caused quite a stir amongst the family. They'd never seem Saturn live before.
(Somebody changed how to spell Amoungst. Damn whipper-snappers!)
I guess I'm lucky, all 5 of mine are interested in the universe, they have the little scopes that you get at Wal-Mart, so now they will really see stuff

Thought so. I used to live in Victorville about 40 years ago and I remember the night desert skies where I first saw the Andromeda Galaxy. It was so clear out there I had no trouble spotting it with the naked eye.
