http://www.johnhpanos.com/epcalib.htm calls the point the "entrance pupil" and explains how to find it. He says the term "nodal point" is incorrect and explains why. It is not the nodal point in the light path (a geometric term), which is in the middle of the lens. I believe the use of the term "nodal point" causes the confusion in locating it

This YouTube video will help you find "the Point" quickly and easily without a lot of measuring and calculating.

The simplest and cheapest way to shoot great panos is the purchase an L bracket and a sliding rail nodal slide quick release clamp plate for Arca Swiss. ( they are very cheap on eBay) To work out the nodal point for each lens line up two posts one close to the camera and one at infinity. Slide the camera along the rail in a horizontal position and rotate the camera until you see that the foreground and background posts are in perfect alignment at both the centre and the edge of the frame.
