I have had a 5500 and now have a 7200. They’re very close to what you’re asking about. I say go with the 7500. It has an auto focus motor, so you won’t have to buy only auto focus lenses, if you do plan on using the auto focus. The 7500 is weather sealed, not the 5600. What you might want to do is check out this link, or others to help in deciding: https://cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D5600-vs-Nikon-D7500

Good luck in whatever you decide. By the way, I absolutely LOVE my 7200 and made the right decision to upgrade.

The 7500 has only 1 memory card slot, a show stopper for me on a main camera system.

So does the 5600.

The D7500 is an excellent camera. It's kind of like they shoved a D500 into a D7200 body, gave up a couple frames per second but improved the cameras auto exposure. It has decent 4K video, Bluetooth, articulated touch screen and excellent AF with facial recognition and a nice built in flash, all for a very reasonable price. Sure it doesn't have a second card slot, but realistically it's not a pro camera so it really doesn't need one; just don't use a super high capacity card.
If I didn't already have a D500 and a D7200, I'd get a D7500.

D7500, if the extra cost and heft are not an issue...

You are leaning in the right direction. Make sure your going to use the heck out of that camera as it is very stout in choices.

The D3xxx and D5xxx series Nikons have a pentamirror viewfinder. If you go to a D7xxx series or above Nikon you get a superior pentaprism viewfinder. The glass prism inside gives a larger, slightly brighter view through the viewfinder. I think it really helps with composition. You also get the great U1 and U2 memory banks on the mode dial. You can store frequently used settings and recall them in a second. You also get dual command dials. This is great when using manual mode - set shutter speed with one and aperture with the other. It's also great for setting mode (aperture priority, shutter priority, program mode, and manual). You set the mode with one of the command dials and the number of focus points with the other.

Look for a good quality, used Nikon D500. You should be able to find one in excellent condition for the price of a new D7500. The D500 is one of the best cameras on the market: mine was a fabulous bit of kit.

Someone above mentioned the built-in focus motor on the D7500. Here is a handy chart that shows which lenses work on each Nikon model.

Thanks for the chart! I have a D500, which has turned out to be an unbelievably wonderful instrument. I was excited and gratified to see that it is fully compatible with EVERY type of lens listed. Now, I know that I can buy any lens I like without having to hunt for compatibility articles (I’ve run across several lenses offered at really great prices in venues where internet wasn’t available, I.e. flea markets, open air swap meets, garage sales, etc.). Before someone cautions against buying lenses without knowing it is not flawed, there have been times that I would have taken the risk. Thanks again for posting the chart!!

You make the same stupid comment on every thread that mentions the D7500. You need to get over yourself and get on with life.
