Had to try the dragons

All these dragon photos took me out to the back yard. I learned that shooting with the 24-70 at 70mm (1st shot) produced a body completely in focus. Going to the 100-400 at 400 (2nd shot) produced great eye detail but the rear of the body got lost. Since both were hand held, next time I will use a mono pod to see if I get better results.

Nothing wrong with sharp eyes and fuzzy tail.

Nice, and very sharp photos. DOF is more shallow with the longer lens.

Thanks, Bob, the last one taught me the need for support with a close 400mm attempt.

Thanks for checking out the photos. I am going to have to learn better support ideas for future shots.

Love the delicate detail of the “feet”, the hair on the legs, the structure on the wings. Good capture!

Nice shots, Mike. I think the mono pod idea is a good one. I don't understand the obsession with hand held shots. I would say that 85% or more of my photo's are from a monopod. I'm looking forward to seeing your next try at dragons.

Thanks for looking, Chief. At my age, I am in favor of anything that will help.

Nice shots Mike. I use a gimbal head on a tripod for them but I'm shooting using a 200-500mm at a relatively close distance. vz

Thanks for looking in, vz. I have not advanced enough on tripods yet. Just use the fixed head for landscapes. I guess I am going to have to take another step in my learning curve.
