In a previous post regarding a young lady who had shot a giraffe in Africa there were numerous rants about how sport hunting was causing animals to be on the endangered list now as well as in the past. Safari Club International recently had an article in their magazine about how no animal has ever been on the endangered list due to sport hunting. I am posting a photo from that article that will explain the numbers better than I can.
If you choose not to accept this than that is up to you. Of course there are people who believe everything posted from the Left but refuse to believe anything from the Right. Your choice but here is the information. Sorry if it may not go along with your viewpoint.

Another aspect that is not often spoken of is that in the USA in 1937 the Pittman/Robertson Act or the Wildlife Restoration Fund was passed by congress and singed into law by the president with the support of hunters. This is a tax on firearms, ammo, bow, arrows and other related things. This money is used to fund wildlife management and hunter education. The point is made the without hunters we could management wildlife properly. Another major part of wildlife management is carrying capacity (look it up) of habitat. One example is if an area has 100 animals and during the 70 die, but if by hunting 30 of those animals are harvested allowing 50-60 animals survive the winter. It is your choice not to hunt, but do not take away my ability to help manage wildlife.
Even though I no longer hunt wildlife management is very important. Personally I have seen the damage and destruction that an overpopulated animal can do to farmlands and other habitat that is shared by several species. Proper education is key.

These species were saved because of government management, not "sportsmen". Habitat was saved and their predators were reduced or managed. Times to hunt were established and licenses required. Indiscriminate killing was stopped.
I have a difficult time calling hunters "sportsmen". I don't see any sport in using a high powered rifle to kill from a distance. It is hunting plain and simple. I hunt and there is nothing sporting about it. I take my deer and turkeys and fill my freezer. It is not a sport and there is nothing sporting about it.
Whether it is a lion or giraffe in Africa, a Kodiak bear in Alaska, or a tuna off of the South Carolina coast. There is no sport in the killing. This is not helping to manage anything. Every animal on that endangered poster got there from over hunting and reducing their habitat. Mankind caused their crisis.

And where the hell do you think the government gets the money to pay for these lands and what is needed to save these animals? It is Sportsman’s dollars whether in America, Africa, New Zealand or anywhere else. As another member posted, the Pittman Robertson Act, enacted years ago by hunters and fishermen brings about this money. License sales garners more. Hunting organizations raise millions to purchase land that everyone can use for hunting or for the use of non hunters. Almost nobody who used public land and enjoys seeing wild animals contributes anything for the privilege.
You hunt to fill your freezer yet put down the rest of us for whatever motives we have for hunting. We fill our freezers too. How Liberally hypocritical of you. You complain of how easy it is to shoot game with a rifle while much of my game is killed by sneaking up on the animal and killing it humanely with a revolver.

I don't think nobody ever claimed that regulated hunting is to blame, but no one can argue that poaching is not responsible for a lot of that!

Check the original post of the girl shooting the giraffe and you will see lots of rants from anti hunters.

What's really sad is I've talked to a few anti-hunters and you know what they told me? They said it's better for many to die from starvation than to have a few killed by hunters. Why? Because it's done by nature. No sympathy for the anguish the animals suffer just because it's done by nature. I just shook my head walked away.

Maybe you need to take another look at the poster. There are more animals now in America than when The Pilgrims arrived. The important numbers are that each animal is thriving which is the opposite of what lying anti hunters tell us. Where is the crisis you are telling us about? Just like you Liberals to make everything a crisis. Perhaps you can find a safe space with your teddy and calm down a bit. No need to fly into a rage.

Exactly. Years ago in NJ there was a surplus of deer on an island. Hunters were going to hunt the area and humanely kill the surplus animals and eat the meat. Anti hunters obtained a court order to stop the hunt because they said they would trap the animals and move them to another area. In the end over 200 animals starved to death, a painful and horrible way to die.

I agree. Make these "sportsmen" hunt like they used. Sports hunting is murder.
