Iâve been waiting almost 6-months to get a drone, and finally acquired a DJI. First trip out was spent learning how to fly it. On the second trip I got to play with the camera. The attached shot was the still I finally decided to shoot. I also played with the video, and have produced a short clip but it wouldnât upload due to size. Nonetheless, this is going to be FUN!
Yes, it’s a tad dark, but that’s some of my style when working with color. While spending the past few months researching drone shooting I noted ND and CP filters were considered a must. Since I basically emptied my piggy bank to buy the drone I didn’t get the filters. Honestly, with what I saw during my flights I don’t see much need for anything but the CP. BUT—I’m listening...advice on this?
I started with buying extra batteries and an iPad. I saved for a while and then bought the filters by Polar Pro. You don't say which model DJI drone you bought. The picture is fantastic. Very very nice. You should use the (store original) option so that we can see the image in full size (much better)
For video, use the website that DJI uses for video called skypixel.com or upload your video to youtube and then just paste the links here in UHH. Keep up the good work.
Gorgeous shot! I don't think it's too dark. The darkness in this picture is appropriate for the time of day the shot was taken.
I just watched an outstanding video on the subject of ND filters on drones by Drone Film Guide. I highly recommend watching this video. He explains the topic very well. I've attached a link to the video, but if it doesn't work, you can find "Drone Film Guide" on YouTube. The title of the video is "Drone ND Neutral Density Filters || Everything You Need To Know."

I think the darkness sets it apart from being a snapshot, thanks!!

Long story short on ND filters, they really aren't needed for stills, but can be crucial for videos to keep the shutter speed low enough (in the 1/60th range) to allow normal viewing. CPLs are difficult, if not impossible to use effectively because you can't adjust them in flight of course so you really don't know what you're getting.
