Technique Question: Viewfinder or Live View

I know some use red dot sights, but that is not an option for me at this time. When trying to capture BIF, do you find it easier to acquire the subject in a long lens (300-500) using the viewfinder or Live View? (I am assuming using a tripod, not handholding).

Viewfinder. Sunlight can make you lose your view on the display and it will definitely always be dimmer than the viewfinder.

Viewfinder. Try zooming out to acquire the subject, then zooming in as you track it. Hard to do hand held, but much easier using a tripod with a gimbal head.
