Welcome, ditchdigger! Good on you for joining and posting! Those are wonderful photos; if I was you, I'd give up the digging and stick with photography!

I am going to submit (if all goes well) a couple of shots I took last month of my saguaro during its brief blooming period. They are both jpegs right out of the camera except for cropping. The first is just a snapshot to show the cactus in bloom. The blossom in the second is from farther back standing on the ground in order to see into the face of the flower sticking out from the end of the arm. Both were hand heldâÂÂ-sun directly overhead. I am pretty sure I took both shots in auto mode (I was only a beginner then LOL).
The flower shot was taken from about 15 ft. 600mm then severely cropped. I was amazed at how sharp that funny red eyed fly looked when I could not even see it while standing on the ground.
An aside: I have since seen posts of that identical fly on flowers from as far away as Louisiana and even New Zealand. His little wings must be tired, and if I traveled that much my eyes would be red too!

I like the close image with the bug.
Welcome to the HOG. You just proved you are never too old to learn. Nice going.
Welcome! How nice to have a saguaro blossom close enough to the ground to be able to shoot it. Mine are about 15' up!

Enjoyed these. Cactus blooms are beautiful for sure. I have the RX10111. You might go online and see if Alexander S. White has a book on the 1V. The book has helped me greatly to utilize what is available with this great camera. I believe the 1V is similar to the 111 so if there isn't a new book, I would think the older would give you much of same info. Have fun and keep posting. Oh, tripod is very helpful.
Welcome, Ditchdigger. Your shots look like a pro's. Excellent!
Very nice and welcome. Keep posting.
Especially like the lighting and sharpness of your fly on flower photo. Creative too! Thanks for sharing.

Now, all you need to do for a great PHOTGROPHY hobby is to get at least one PRIME/MACRO lens, and you will be set for life.. And best wishes for a long and longer life. Your pictures were quite good. Maco could make it even "FUNNER"... RJM
I had to "P.S." because your camera may not allow for different lenses. I'll look it up. Anyway welcome to the forum Enjoy all the folks and images.
Just looked at the "specs" of that camera, with a fixed lens, and read the description, awesome, and MACRO to boot. Looks like you're all set Please keep posting those images that interest you, they certainly will also interest the rest of us on the forum. RJM
Welcome to the Hog Ditchdigger, you did great.
Nice first post and look forward to seeing more soon.
