I always enjoy your excellent commentary on the subjects of this forum but really have to disagree on this one. Have gotten many good to great shots with my iPhone . Even hung some on the wall which my quests enjoy.

Yes. It’s all about the images, not the tech.

Exactly.

In my younger years it was impressed on me that the camera was secondary to the quality of the compositon. The quality of the composition is determined by the nut behind the lens.

Those who try to substitute expensive gear for skill will be rewarded with mediocre results and a deflated bank account.

That has not changed.

I thought it was the journey not so much the destination? I think they both have their merits
And as long as I have a dslr camera, camera phone stays as snap shot documentation tool.

Clearly it's all a matter of image (pun intended). You can't be a REAL photographer unless you are using a big, black dslr with a 10 inch long lens with a lens hood.

But my wife says size doesn't matter.

There is a class at the public library at the end of July for iPhone photography. I think I’m going to take it ....

Are you enjoying arguing over nothing? I wouldn't try and squeeze my DSLR into places which my smartphone will fit comfortably. Different tools which have various strengths AND weaknesses. Yes, a "real" camera has weaknesses which a smartphone will excel in.

I’m gonna check and see if my Canon 1Dx has a “Pro Mode”?! LoL
Boy, I sure hope it does!!!!!!

Yes, your Canon 1Dx is a pro camera. Nobody disputes that. But most of us have mastered the pro modes of our cellphones so that we can even get pro quality images from the limits of our cellphones. If you don't believe that to be true, feel free to write the National Geographic photo editor and tell her she can't produce pro quality images from her cellphone even though she does. Yes, she will use a pro camera of her choice off the Nat Geo shelves. But she also knows how to shoot unobtrusively with her cellphone and get pro quality images. Maybe you should learn what your cellphone is actually capable of like the Nat Geo photo editor has.

I think SharpShooter is being difficult on purpose. That's the only reason I can think of for the attitude he seems to have. He's also picking and choosing who he responds to, and not taking on board anyone else's opinions.

Maybe, like most of the people on this thread including the OP I believe, he is not taking the thread as a serious discussion, but rather as a diversion and a bit of satire.

after 6 pages of replies I think it is time I add my nickles worth in the mix because.
I too have the Galaxy S6.
Enough has already been said about cell fone cameras.
I purchased a flexible cabled mini scope which connects to a cell phone or tablet.
This allows one to visually inspect places otherwise not acceptable like inside engines, other areas of cars etc.
Yes it is nice to have a handy dandy pocket camera on the fone that we can whip out and get a quick shot.
I do believe the cell fone engineers never intended to compete or challenge real cameras since they are a specific device.
Where cell phones now are just small pocket computers with telephone, internet and a camera feature.
We've come a long way Ma Bell.

I recall an Apple commercial not too long ago where some of the most beautiful, stunning and dramatic images were presented, of all types - portrait, landscape, street, etc. all taken with an iPhone. That commercial confirmed my strong belief that it is the photographer, not the camera, that makes the most impact on the quality and beauty of an image. The attitude that a photograph cannot be amazing or dramatic without the use of a high-end camera and multi-thousand-dollar lens shot in full manual mode is just elitist and inherently wrong. The cameras in today's devices are light years (pun intended) ahead of the technology of the early digital Nikons, Canons, Sonys, etc. If someone had a camera with the capabilities of an iPhone camera back in, say, the 70's or 80's, it would be heralded as a "miracle" camera and coveted by photographers worldwide. So what if technology has advanced for DSLRs and other cameras? Better the shot made with an iPhone than the shot missed without one - always!

well spoken Tommy
right on the mark,
the iPhone is known to one of if not the best cell phone cameras and yes, it is the operator, not the device for sure.

Smartphone cameras easily best the output from most FF 35mm film point-and-shoot cameras of the era (1960s — 1990s), especially when compared to 400 speed films.

Besides, just try to post a 35mm film image to the Internet a minute after you make it...

Do you have evidence of this. Physics alone tells me this is impossible. No matter how good the image from the cell phone is, it would have to be enlarged many more times than the full frame film image. I do, however agree with your second statement. But my comment dealt strictly with image quality.
