Thanks, Corky!! I saw a female monach this afternoon on my milkweed, I hope she comes back and makes a deposit of eggs!!
I looked back at last year posts and I started this process in August, so actually I'm ahead of the game this year.

Last year I think it was September before any made an appearance here, but have already seen a few several weeks ago, but have not seen any eggs or young so far and think that it's terrific that they have visited you this early and left you some babies!... We did have a pleasant surprise yesterday afternoon though and I could hardly believe my eyes as a Zebra Swallowtail was nectaring at a butterfly bush and stayed around at least thirty minutes---first we've ever seen here! We tried to attract them by planting their host trees, Pawpaws, but the trees never budded out, so have planned a trip to a nursery located near Afton, Virginia to purchase some replacements.... will be looking forward to hearing some more good news about those babies! Take care!

Thanks Corky!! I looked over last years notes and photos and I didn't start doing this until August and continued well into September... so this really is early! The mama must have laid these eggs beginning of June for them to be so big and these lucky 5 were the only ones to survive. I'm hoping she comes back and does it all over again!!
The last remaining 4 are eating away and getting fat, so any day now they will join their sibling in chrysalis!!

Congrats on seeing a Zebra Swallowtail and it was so nice of her to stick around your garden for as long as she did.... I hope you ran for your camera!!

No flowers yet on my beans, but they are well over 6' tall!!!

Take care and good luck with the new trees if you get them... I've never heard of a Pawpaw!!

I really hope they all make it, Angela and yes this time I did have the camera with a memory card and took quite a few images even though some are not very good, as I wanted to record this first visit From what I've read Pawpaw trees were more popular in colonial times as they produce a fruit that was utilized by many! If you have a chance Google Pawpaw as quite a bit of info is available! Think that I will rap it up for the night and am hoping for rain as we are very dry, but we will be looking for the latest developments on the cats tomorrow! Take care!
