They are the "County Bird". All over the place. You'll find them on t-shirts of all kinds in most stores. Rumor has that they aren't very good eating, so they have no human predators, as well has others, so they just go all over the island. I'm sure I have plenty of pictures of them from our annual trips to Kauai, as well.

I like the next to the last photo. With the shadow of the ax head in the top of the frame. They have a reason to be running. These chickens will jump up on your lap and join you for dinner if there is something appealing to them on your plate.

Great set Mike. That last capture with the mother and chicks is way cute.

At the urging of other Hogs, I am posting these older shots. On Kauai there is a significant wild chicken population. The popular theory is that after a hurricane in the 90s, the domestic and wild populations intermixed. During my trip there in 2017, I became fascinated by the variety of chickens and began to photograph them in their natural habitat (parking lots). Here are a few shots from my old camera showing chicken highlights.

...I see one chicken with baby chicks...the rest look like a motorcycle gang...especially if they are hanging out in a parking lot...!

When I saw UT Mike, I first thought University of Texas..... Nice shirt!

The UT in my avatar stands for Utah, but I am from Texas originally. My two children by my first marriage are UT grads and my grandson starts there this fall.

Thanks for visiting, Angela. My wife is unsure about my obsession, but had one good shot printed for me on canvas.

It does look like an axe, but it was a sign. You are correct, they are not afraid.

They are definitely the "bad" chickens.
